I see one Ohio player on our roster and Gio from Michigan who was here before CA. Doesn't this man have HS coaching contacts where he worked who could steer some players here for a look? Not everyone can play for tOSU. When GS couldn't find enough local talent, he went to Florida and found it. Maybe I don't understand recruiting. $$$$

I don't have a problem with doing national recruiting. In my opinion, New Jersey football is a mile wide and an inch deep, and each coach seems to have small-man syndrome.

I thought Schiano was shrewd getting the second-tier Florida players away from other programs. It paid dividends.

I was on board with Ash's thought that a school like Rutgers needs to recruit a broad area. Then he wanted to fence the garden. Then he wanted to not recruit defensive linemen. His program is disjointed.

I was actually shocked Tverdov wanted to come, and I think his chop in a game signalled a desire to return to RU's past. I wonder if that was an affront to the coaching staff along with the previous week (forget who did it).

So, to recap, I believe in casting a wider geographic net, but Rutgers has to recruit its own and be smart in other areas (Australia and Sweden notwithstanding).

There are a lot of FBS schools in that region. Yes, not everyone ends up at OSU, but you have Kentucky in the SEC, Pitt and Louisville in the ACC, Cincy in the AAC and Ohio, Toledo, Akron, Miami (OH), and Kent State in the MAC, all in that region. Should Rutgers a B1G school be able to draw kids away from AAC and MAC schools, in theory, yes, but a lot of those kids like to play close to home and Ash has not produced a winner here yet. Put it this way, if you are an Ohio kid why travel all the way to Piscataway, NJ just to get your *** handed to you by OSU for four years, doesn't make any sense.

You can easily make the argument that good MAC programs would be a more attractive option than Rutgers for a Midwest recruit right now.

Go to RU and get beat up every week, or go to a MAC team and have in effect two seasons, OOC season where you play some of the top FBS schools and then conference season where you actually get to fight for a league title.

The recruit locally paradigm has not worked in decades and generations. That ship has sailed. We do not need to focus on “local guys”. Focus on successful coaches and folks with established recruiting chops.

He should skip Sweden and look for Samoans or guys from Tonga. You knew, the ones with the names you cannot pronounce but stand 6-5, Weigh 295 and run 4.5. The good news is they are so far from NJ they will have no idea what a disaster we have on our hands.

The Waters - Hill tandem should have been given time to work. Played to both men's strengths. The one thing I hold against Uncle Bob.

Worked for Schiano along with recruiting Florida. You can’t recruit locally exclusively but it needs to be your base operation.

No. He's a geek with 0 charisma or gravitational pull. He can't recruit.

Tonga Sporting Network News (TSNN) aired a three-part series last week titled "Why can't Rutgers win?" It's up for a South Pacific Emmy.
