Until the IHSA figures out that all 8 classes should be seeded statewide (1-32), we will continue to see scores like we saw today. Especially in these smaller class match ups.

i am not sure. In 1A, that was Forreston's closest game.
In 2A, Deer Creek only had one close game. And they beat a higher seeded Newman squad by 2 points in the quarters.
In 3A. IC killed everyone.
The only complaint would be in 4A.
Where you could argue that Altoff and Rochester could have been seeded differently. But even in a 1 -32 seed you never know how that would shake out with the way they do current seeding by record and points.
The state champs in 1A and 3A rolled this year thru the playoffs.
And the 2A and 4A teams faced their toughest challenge in the quarters so honestly it wasn't a north south thing either. Because if it were a north south thing, the best games would be semi finals.

Althoff had the 1 seed in the south and Rochester was a 4 because they lost to 6a finalist SHG, thus the teams met in the quarters. If there had been a subjective look at things, is Columbia really a 2 seed over them because they were undefeated in the Cahokia conference? No way!
The Forreston/St. Theresa game was 4 TD's, but it didn't look like DST was completely outclassed. Same with Dee Mac and M-F. But the 3A and 4A games though.
You nailed it. When they announced that they were going to regional seeding (back in the day all classes were statewide seeded) two statements the IHSA made at the time still hang in my mind to this day. "The state championship games don't exist to guarantee that the 2 best teams in each class play each other" Hmm not very fan friendly if not arrogant! "We don't seed any of the other sports statewide, for instance basketball" DUH until you reach the Supersectionals there are 2-3 games a week, obviously you cant have a team from Chicago traveling say to Effingham 2 times in week during the school year.
Both these quotes I paraphrased as it was awhile back but that was the gist of it. The whole thing was nothing more then a further attempt to eliminate as many private schools as possible before each Championship game.
By and large you are right, however EStL is getting it done so far and further more they elected to play up a class this year. The rational that escapes me to today.
They seed baseball and wrestling off of the top of my head, I'm sure there are others.
