This study from the New England Journal of Medicine from 5 days ago shows that the vaccine has become less effective as the Delta variant has become more prevalent, but that it is still very effective in preventing hospitalization. This is expected since the Vaccine was created to defend against the original Covid-19 virus and not a variant. It is also why the medical community is extremely concerned about the new Omicron variant.

Nature released findings from a study that used models to predict how long natural immunity would last. It found that "The results suggest that the average reinfection risk rises from about 5% four months after initial infection to 50% by 17 months. Overall, natural protection seems to last for less than half as long as it does for the three common-cold coronaviruses". The study reinforces the need for those who currently have been infected to increase their protection with a vaccine.
