It is Tuesday and there is no thread about the ECF game. Where are the Raleigh and NB posters? I have not seen Millbrook play this year but they seem to be a legitimate threat to win the East. They have rolled since their only loss of the year which was to Rolesville. I saw NB play Hoggard live and then watched them play Jordan and Rolesville online. After the Hoggard and Jordan game I thought they would have their hands full against Rolesville but they responded with one of the most impressive wins in this years playoffs. I am sure Millbrook is trying to find the NB-Hoggard film where Hoggard held the Bears to 21 points. I think NB will be favored by 7-8.

Our #1 back barely played against Hoggard with 6 carries and we didn't show much in the rain and avoided the sweeps and tosses with it being wet. Supposed to be beautiful weather and 40 degrees this Friday in New Bern, perfect weather for some ground and pound. Millbrook likes the quick passing game and will run the ball a little to keep the NB defense on their toes. #8 and #22 are the keys to their defense, which is stout. Hoping we can play another error free game this Friday night.

Millbrook fans are not really on this site. They are usually on the one based in the Raleigh area. I do see this as a great matchup for Millbrook. Defense has really stepped up the second half of the season and stopped a great Gibbons and Hillside team. If Millbrook can run the ball while also executing their pass game, they will score points. Big key to this game is stopping the option run of New Bern. If the Millbrook defense can stop them and get some turnovers, and hold NB to less than 28, Millbrook will win.

Last time these 2 teams played each other was in 2007 and came down to the last play of the game. New Bern went on to win the State Title and beat Indy. I hope we have another great game like that one!

NB ran outside 15 times, out of 52 plays against Hoggard. Hoggard had good strength on the edges and played that well overall. The only negitive yardage plays for NB were plays outside.
Millbrook Has passed the ball 382 times and they have run it 292 times. They are pretty balanced.

The Coach of that 2007 New Bern squad will be in the box on Friday night helping his Bears try to reach another State Championship. We know what Millbrook does and they know what we do, all about execution come Friday night.

We had a RB that had 5 carries the entire year before the Hoggard game and had 10 vs Hoggard. NB had the ball at the 35 with under a minute left and all 3 timeouts and was content in running the clock out.

Millbrook is definitely balanced as was Rolesville. Rolesville's QB missed almost half the regular season and they still had two 1,000 yard rushers and 4 WR's with 400+ yards. NB has 5 guys on D with 10+ TFL and 5 defenders with 3+ INT's on the year. Millbrook has the Tenn commit outside but #1 is a really good complimentary piece to the offense. They like the short passing game and getting their guys in space along with the swing passes to the back. NB is quick on D but we'll have to tackle well and limit the big plays by the Wildcats.

I have read a Bears poster saying they can pass IF needed. I wouldn’t mind seeing a 4A school run the ball almost exclusively and win the state championship. However, usually some team along the way finds a way to stop the run. Only 2 teams left with that opportunity. Going to be pulling for the Bears, who by the way, were in the Mideastern Conference back when I was at NHHS (early 1980s)

They can and have done it in critical times, including the playoffs. The RB swing pass against South View in the 2020 Regional Final was a thing of beauty. Wake Forest did it 3 times not too long ago and we'll see if we can join them.

You’re right. Hoggards very lucky that NB took it easy on them. I’m sure they are grateful that NB didn’t beat them 56-0.
It is interesting how when defending NB sos a few weeks back Hoggards defense was legit and now they are trash and you guys didn’t play your best players or run your best plays.

They felt bad about 2014. I'm just having fun with you, brother. Nothing but love for the Wilmington schools.

I agree with nothing but love to the Wilmington schools....except Laney. Hanover and Hoggard are always great and tough teams. Laney I can live without. I'll leave it at that
Go Bears!

The ole sprinkler trick in 2012 was a ballsy move. Hadn't rained in weeks but was a monsoon out there that Friday night.

We've had so many chances to break this one open but credit Millbrook for being scrappy. Longest 3 minutes of my life here.

New Bern 35
Millbrook 27

FINAL

Bears move on to play in their 7th State Championship in the past 20 years. New Bern had so many chances to make this a 3-score game in the 2nd half and had the ball inside the Millbrook 20 with 6 minutes to go but fumbled. The Wildcats are a very well-coached team and both sides of the ball were well prepared and very physical. Was a classic just like 2007.

Some of the worst announcers I’ve ever heard lol. Constantly complaining about refs. Great game, but the announcers were just unbearable at times.
It's their first year and they've never done it before. And they don't care what anyone thinks about it but luckily ya'll won't have to hear it anymore.

Congratulations to NB. Well deserved win. Two big takeaways for me. At times NB defense doesn’t necessarily look dominant but they have made plays all year. If they get the chance to pick off a pass, it’s a done deal. The strip from the TE was a huge play.
The Millbrook QB needed to play great tonight and make tough passes and he just couldn’t get it done. NB did a nice job covering and holding the WRs but there were quite a few opportunities for long pass plays but the QB just couldn’t make the plays.

Is that a weakness in their Defense? Grimsley has two Power 5 D1 receivers and they will throw it up to them on go routes. I think this is going to be a high scoring State Title game

NB players making plays is not a weakness.

We've played 3 receivers the last 2 weeks that are going to Ohio State, Tennessee and NC State along with a TE that is going to Charlotte. Shut out Havelock that has a 4* TE going to NC State. We have half a dozen DB's with 3+ picks and a 4* DT committed to FSU, who is good friends with Jarrett over at Grimsley. Two teams playing in Kenan Stadium Friday night that have earned the right to play on the biggest stage. Grimsley is loaded with talent, so we'll have our hands full.

I was more so referring to you mentioning Millbrook missing opportunities for long pass plays. I took that to mean guys were getting behind the secondary. Looking forward to the game next week

I’m a Grimsley alum, have much respect for your program! I live in Raleigh now, so my old man gives me some insight on what’s going on in Greensboro. Think this game is going be a barn burner. New Bern will be a hard team for the Whirlies Defense to slow down. Look forward to hearing some insight on the Bears this week

As mentioned, NB has played some very good WRs. Those WR have gotten behind the defense but the pass still has to be there.
