Have seen Minny live 4 times, at Butler and Purdue, and at home against DePaul and Florida International. Few more on the telly:
-Daniel Oturu is an absolute stud. Don’t understand how Pitino uses him, basically spending his life on the top of the key, setting screens for others. The few times he receives it down low, he makes something happen, often getting double teamed. He’s strong, hard to keep off the boards, decent mid range. I’d double team him down low and start by giving him the 3 point shot.
-Marcus Carr can get hot and has a fairly diverse set of tools. Good shooting and penetrating. Not excellent, but significantly above average. If you close the passing lanes often like Purdue does, he’ll keep the ball for much longer than he should. Struggles with full court press. Probably would be best guarded by Gaines. In absence maybe AJ who has height on him.
-Kalscheur is a very good shooter. Not hard to guard but requires his defender to not help as much as you would guarding someone else. If you don’t, good chance he’ll score 20+ on you
-Willis, good shooter, but does not get open easily at all, not nearly as much of a threat as Kalscheur is.
-Demir has good fundamentals. Decent on pretty much everything, not great on anything. Stays within what his skill set allows him. Slow, no bounce. But knows his limits
-That’s pretty much their entire team. No depth, only Omersa, amongst other players, sometimes gets significant minutes. Mostly if there’s foul trouble or other teams plays big. Gives you hustle and nothing else. Can be left unguarded and won’t shoot.
Minny struggled when Purdue played Haarms and Trevion at the same time. Demir and Omersa had a lot of trouble guarding a big. But Nance is unlikely to abuse them.
In theory our height is something that will help us.
