With Hurt in the fold and expecting Stanley on Monday, we'll have 12 guys capable of getting minutes. I would expect 9 guys to get the bulk of the minutes. 10 or more would shock me. We'll have a ton of lineup possibilities, but breaking it down by position, it's going to be tough to manage.

1 - I expect Tre will get 35 mpg here with the rest going either to Goldwire or Boogie

2 - This is suddenly a very interesting position. I expect Moore to start, but we'll also have Stanley, Boogie, and AOC. I'm going to guess Moore for 10 minutes here, Stanley for 20, and Boogie/AOC getting the other 10.

3 - Another position we have a lot of bodies. I'm expecting Hurt to get the start here, but Moore will get time, Stanley could play a little 3 and we've also got Baker and Jack White. Going with 15 minutes from Hurt, 15 from Moore and 10 from White. Right now, I think Baker will be one of the odd men out.

4 - I expect Carey to start here. Hurt will get some time as a stretch 4. Going 20 minutes for Carey, 15 from Hurt, and a sprinkling of Jack maybe for 5 minutes.

5 - Bolden/Javin will start and they will combine for 30 of the minutes at 5 with Carey picking up the other 10.

Overall that would be something like:
Tre - 35
Carey - 30
Hurt - 30
Moore - 25
Stanley - 20
Bolden/Jav - combined for 30
White - 15
Baker/Goldwire/AOC/Boogie fighting to be the 9th in the rotation. It won't be popular, but I can also see a scenario where Boogie is worthy of 15-20 minutes and one of Baker/Goldwire/AOC takes a big step and Jack ends up in the scrap minutes group.

Take Carey down to 25, imo his defense might get him yanked more to the bench at times.

I see hurt as a stretch 4 which would leave Baker and Moore to man the sf spot with white.

So many bodies wouldn’t be surprised to see minutes shortened until January

I must have missed it. When did we get Stanley. OFC

Agree with you on Carey. Stamina and foul trouble may shorten the minutes. The lane will open up w Javin at the 5 and Hurt on wing and Moore, Stanley and Tre our front.

I also see a scenario where K goes matchup specific quite often. Games where Bolden gets 25 or more and games where he gets 0. Might be the same for other guys like Goldwire and Alex. Thing is, when a guy gets in foul trouble, injuries happen, or matchups dictate, K should have multiple guys ready to step up. This year not so much and much more hit and miss.

I have a good feeling about Moore. He reminds me of Winslow. I feel like his first year will look a lot like Winslow’s. He’ll get a lot minutes early because his all around floor game reb/steals/defense. Then as the season progresses becomes a more prolific scorer. Wouldn’t surprise me if he totaled the most minutes of any of the players coming into the program next year.

I don't see it. K will rarely go beyond 8-9 players at most. Wish he played more, but wish in one hand.....

I think it will all be match up based. There will be games where you will see a really strong defensive line up in the court while other times they will have serious firepower. That great is that there will so many options next year.

Great problem to have, no doubt!

I’ll agree with the defense but where is the serious firepower coming from?

Outside of Carey which of the incoming freshman are dominant offensively.

I’m looking forward to next season because I see more of a who’s hot that game then a dominant scoring starting five.

Next year is going to be more about who finishes the game rather then who starts it. It’s going to be more about the flow of the game... if we need to score to get back into a Game I could see a lineup of: Tre, Boogie, Wendell, Hurt, Carey. If we need defense I could see something along the lines of Tre, Jordan, Wendell/white, javin/white, bolden (not much scoring at all but mostly vets who can defend)..

That was very good math. But it won't play out that way. In the good old days, you couldn't have too much talent. Alas, there is no way to keep everyone happy; even if you intentionally force multiple overtimes

But boogie is a pesky defender like Goldwire too. That’s a whole different thing right there. Coach K will get his money worth this year

Sorry... didn’t mean to think that’s what the exact lineups would be.. it was more of an example of he can play so many different lineups based on how the game is being dictated

Good topic but it’s an endless debate. Impossible to predict what’s going to happen, there’s a ton of unanswered variables. The biggest factor is how a freshman’s game translates to the college level. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s likely that one of our incoming guys won’t live up to the hype - immediately anyway.

I think it’s safe to say that Tre will play 35+ minutes, maybe 40 each game. I know there’s other talent knocking on the door but K is very adamant about the BEST player at each spot being on the floor.

If Javin can stay out of foul trouble, I think he’ll also log more minutes than a lot of you are expecting. He finished this past season on a really strong note.

I really try and avoid the minutes projections bc it’s futile. Outside of Tre who will have as many minutes as K believes he can handle and he needs, I’m not sure. I’d guess the next strongest bet is Carey and after that it’s a free for all. As far as incoming players vs expectations- unlike this past crop i don’t think there are going to be ridiculous expectations, at least their shouldn’t be. Individually, each of these guys, really outside of Carey, has some serious weaknesses and “should/could” be multi year guys. If you believe a player is a multi year guy coming in, and yet you also put inflated expectations on them based on outside factors (star rating, “part of #1 class” etc) most of that is on you. They’re not finished products and each of them have a lot to work on, but we are excited to have each and every one of them. Hopefully another today.

Would be great if Hurt were here for 2 years but I think that is not the plan.
Duke is projected to have another great recruiting class in 2020. Add Hurt, Ellis, Alex, Baker, Jordan, Stanley? and maybe Moore to those recruits and Duke basketball just gets better and better.

I think in "big games" Carey will play 35+ minutes. He's gonna be our best offensive player, someone capable of dropping 30 in a given game. Tre can give us 40 in the big games.

Feel like people may be sleeping on Carey since he was one of our first to commit, and he was injured in all of the all-star events. He's gonna be special.
