Misophonia, literally "hatred of sound," is a putative disorder of uncertain classification in which negative emotions, thoughts, and physical reactions are triggered by specific sounds

Anyone else deal with this at home w/ the lassie, or personally?

Used to just think my wife was being stupid, but I guess this is a real thing. She's a complete psycho about a few sounds, mostly just ice clinging in a glass.

Seriously, she's more likely to murder me over ^ than anything else people usually murder people for. :100points:

I just now shipped you 5 large bags of ice and 24 cocktail glasses. Should be there tomorrow.

Chewing of ice or chips for the wife. Even with our mouth closed, she 'reminds' me and the kids about her dislike for that sound.

For me, it's whispering. She watches Big Brother After Dark while I'm trying to go to sleep, and it's basically a three hour whisper fest. Drives me up the wall.

Styrofoam coming out of a tightly packed box. Kill me.

^ crinkling of chips/candy packages is definitely another, with the Squeezing of a flimsy bottled water (super redneck move) taking the cake.

Most of our theater shows are completely ruined for her b/c of this. It's a 100% lock to have someone slowly reaching into a noisy bag for the entire show. I definitely agree it's inconsiderate and annoying. Her noise cancelling headphones keep her 'safe' on airplanes thankfully, or I doubt we'd be able to fly anywhere.

Of course, she eats the very same noisy packages as everyone else. [eyeroll]

A broom sweeping on concrete or tile will do this for me. I feel pain in my teeth when this happens. Only Swiffer, Dyson or a shop vac across those for me. I'm fine if it is on hardwood. Fingernails on a chalkboard and none of the other staples bother me, but I get it for people having it.

I hate when someone takes a bite and the fork scrapes against their teeth when they remove it. My sister does it with every bite and it literally evokes feelings of stress & anxiety when I hear it.

Also, when people eat with their mouths open and make that cursed smacking/moaning/breathing sound. That just makes me angry. It's a visceral response. My dad eating a bowl of cereal is the worst. Sounds like a cow simultaneously chewing and having an asthma attack. :uzi:

There's a chance I'm guilty of this. I need to pay closer attention to find out if I do it all the time or just every now and then. If all the time I need to clean that up.

This times a million. I will literally feel like punching that person, absolutely hate it. And my dog for whatever reason starts licking his mouth or his paw in the middle of the night and it will wake me up in a rage and I smack him. I'm an extremely deep sleeper as well, nothing used to wake me up, but that damn smacking noise kills me. I'm almost to the point of having him sleep in a separate room.

Apparently the way that I eat cereal just absolutely drives her insane. Fairly certain she suffers from this condition.

When she files her fingernails. That makes me want to rip my ears off, so maybe I have it too...

High pitched repetitive noises drive me bonkers. Kids screaming or crying do as well. I was reading about this on-line and my response mechanism is leaving.

My wife is the same way. Eating tortilla chips is basically forbidden if I'm around her. It's not just the chewing, I can understand that. But she loses her **** about my big fat hands rustling through the bag to get one out. I have some weird sound things too, though. Like when I use a public bathroom and I hear someone start to wipe their *** I panic. I can't stand that.

Lip-smacking eating drives me insane. I think it's more of a "manners thing" than a specific problem with the actual sound though.

I do not like the sound of loud crunches when someone else is chewing. Chips/carrots/ice, etc. Wouldn't say it bothers me to the point of neurosis, but it definitely annoys me.

I can't deal with the sound of any type of rattling while in a car. I think it's the combination of sound and the enclosed space. I have to pull over the car way too often to search for and locate whatever random object in the glove box/back seat/floorboard/trunk is making the slightest of sounds. Can't keep driving if I can hear anything.

Watching the nose hair of old people flutter as they struggle to breath. That old smell. Baby powder on ***. Mouths hanging open as the sound of internal organs shutting down fills the room. The soft shuffling of fuzzy slippers and the creaky wheels of rolling oxygen machines.

I would rather go anywhere than to visit an old age home. I'd rather die frozen solid to a metal shopping cart than ever be put in one.

I have a coworker that comes into my office and sips hot coffee. Four or five second sips and finishes every sip with an ah. All I can do not to go Manson Family on him.

No jury would convict.

Anyone eating chips, except me, of course.
Fork/knife scraping across a plate hurts my spine.
Fran Drescher's voice.

The worst offender of all for me is snoring. It gives me rushes of anxiety followed by rage.

Forgot to add this to the annoying wife traits..

..fingernail filing ..just kill me instead

Chalk board scratching..just thinking of that makes me want to vomit

Cutting through food all the way to the plate and scratching plate..again vomit

Any complaint my wife spews
