Ohio State basketball manages to be highly competitive most years. Florida has National championships in football and basketball.

Having the top basketball program in the country does not preclude UK from having a competitive football team. The support for the football team from the AD here has been disgusting. He has robbed the golden goose. Fantastic investments have been made in the program the past three years, but they were done too late. The investment were spurned on in response to 14,000 fans showing up for the Vanderbilt game. It was too little too late. And now Barnhart has clearly whiffed on the Stoops hire.

Can I ask why people give Barnhart credit for the SEC ESPN contract? How is he responsible for that check coming in?

Am I the only person who notices that when the camera is on Stoops he looks like he is staring into the headlights of an oncoming car? Always looks that way during games.

There were a couple of ex football players involved with the hiring of Stoops. I believe Tim Couch was involved. Stoops resume as a DC was excellent at Florida State, and everywhere he had been. Based on our record of hiring and firing football coaches in the past, no Head Coach who was well known, wanted the job.

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!

Enough of this ******** logic already. Stay on rafters.
It's the truth , you can eat a big ish sandwhich if you don't like it . UK fans would never have football as the top sport , you are one of those people that think football is king for everybody if only they could be winners . Which is exactly the type of crap you label basketball fans as doing in only supporting that sport because they win . Amazing logic and double standard by the way . I haven't posted anything that should get anybody upset , tune it out if it gave you the sore *** .

a. You and I have agreed on quite a bit on here in the past few days I've noticed so no idea why you're jumping in.
B. Due to his avatar I know he posts almost entirely on Rafters, but now that the football soap opera has reached a fever pitch, has suddenly found it worthwhile to make an appearance on the football board and then offers up opinions to the tune of "we can't so anything about it, just accept it."
C. Due to that scintillating logic and attitude of apathy and complacence, I stand by my "stick to rafters" comment.
I post on the lair every football season and there is a soap opera every single year , none of that is my problem .

There is no ******** here.

Fact: UK football's woes have spanned over the course of decades, loooong before MB became the AD.

Fact: Mitch Barnhart hired the coach who took us to 4 straight bowls.

Fact: Mitch was the AD who presided over the upgrading of our football stadium and practice facility to make us "competitive" - or so say those who bitched for years about the lack of facilities.

You know what's ********? Fans like you who misplace their anger about our football program on the AD. Get over it.

The problem is that any other decent AD could/would have done all this as well. Brooks is the best move he's made....so I'll give him credit for that. But he's negated that with 1, and potentially 2 bad hires following Brooks. In hiring Stoops, he hired someone who was desperate to become a head coach, not on hiring lists for other schools, and was unable to lure someone with a bigger name and background. Any other AD could have hired Stoops as well, so nothing unique there. Hiring Cal was an obvious choice any AD could have made...and in fact he was late to the game on that. And going by what others say in here, he didn't even want to hire Cal at the time that he was hired.

Look, more made up bs. You just made up a lie to take a shot at someone you dont know. Let that sink in POS.

Wow, you think I made that up. I read it in print back when Joker was on the hot seat, so Mitch definitely said that he loved Joker. If you can find me any evidence that he has made that kind of statement about Cal, then I will stand corrected. I am far from a POS, as anyone that knows me will attest to. It is pretty weak on your part to resort to name calling of someone you don’t know, because you don’t agree with them.

By the way here is evidence of Mitch saying he loves Joker as a person. While that is a little different than saying he loves Joker. He did say it. Play the video at the link and you can hear it for yourself. It just struck me as odd, at the time he said this, when I have never heard him say something like this about Cal.

So if by sure chance UK football takes off and garners statewide attention-are you going to file a grievance With the university signed with your own menstruated blood? I mean no one wants football as the top dog and all. Enjoy your ish sandwich as you ponder on that, queef.

He's made t least three gigantic mistakes, any one of which was worthy of being fired:

1. He hired Billy Clyde Gillispie to run the greatest college basketball program in the country.
2. He named Joker Phillips the dread 'coach in waiting' assuring years of football mediocrity.
3. He gave Stoops a $15.5 million buyout when he had accomplished nothing, assuring more years of mediocrity.

If he hadn't been pushed into hiring Cal, what would he have to show for 15 years of six-figure salaries?

Actually, he made four. When he hired Brooks, it was as a last resort. He interviewed and declined to offer Charlie Strong (big mistake) and apparently never called Urban Meyer, who was in the process of leaving Bowling Green and taking the Utah job, IIRC. He could have also talked to Brian Kelly, who was then at Central Michigan. As it turns out, Brooks was widely panned as a hire, but turned out better than expected. But by no means did he turn out as well as some of the other guys he possibly could have hired.

I have zero confidence in MB ability to spot, interview and hire a good football coach. He has proved he can't do it.
