No. He does not deserve the right to hire any coaches for any sport.
if only someone else had though to start a thread about Barnhart's incompetence.
The silence coming out of his office is deafening.
I think or know he has good intentions to hire a good coach , he just hasn't been able to pull it off because UK football has sucked for so long . He went after Bill Parcells and had him seriously considering it . That tells you he wants a great coach , that would have been the best hire UK could have ever hoped for . I think Parcells owns horses here and spends time in Kentucky , that was the angle Mitch had . Parcells is not some cuddly nice guy coach either , so the fallacy that Mitch only wants nice guys isn't true .
Mitch's biggest problem is that nobody wants this job because here isn't much benefit to it . It's an uphill climb , nobody but an up and comer or a unhirable coach would take that on . We need another angle on a great coach , somebody that has ties to this state . It's the only way you'll ever get a great coach and actually keep him for any length of time .

If he was smart he would form a selection committee. He can reserve the right to make the final choice but he needs serious input from some smart experienced football brains.
I thought the Stoops hire was done with a selection committee ? If not then I heard wrong but if so then it doesn't really help
We don't know if that is true or not. Just like the lie that some guy like you stated when he was hired, "MB is a football guy"--how is that working out?--Don't answer, it might be another rumor.
It's not a rumor , Parcells recommended Brooks to Mitch after he turned the job down . I didn't know Mitch's background and I wasn't one of those that said anything much less that he was a football guy . But you can't accept negative rumors like Mitch didn't really hire Cal that are actually false and ignore the positive ones like Parcells that are actually true . I just don't have an agenda against MB or an axe to grind , his microwave comment didn't burn me .
Mitch did not initiate the Parcells talks. Larry Ivy did.
We covered this prior to Ivy leaving. MB picked up the conversation upon Ivy's exit.

Why don't they just do away with the AD and have the BOT hire a selection committee?
Real QUALIFIED AD's have knowledge and connections.
I don't know who initiated this as the story doesn't name Mitch, but it's a bunch of ******** if you ask me.
I don't get why people keep making excuses for Mitch. Kentucky is the third best football team in our state. No excuse for that.
It is the sport's admin. I know for a fact it is, I dealt with them in a legal battle myself, as has several companies in Lexington and across the state.
So, just within this thread, we have people saying ADs should definitely use a committee for hiring, others saying they definitely should not. IOW, no matter what the AD does, you're going to have people moaning and complaining.
Mitch is such a great athletic director isn't he.... He makes wonderful decisions with the football program that helps fund many other athletic programs. The ones you Mitch defenders feel are more important.
And look where Tennessee football is right now compared to our program. The third place program in our state.
I don't care either way about Mitch. He's our AD not Jesus. Name a football hire in UK's history that has worked out. Even our Most successful hire Rich Brooks had people like you slapping Ditch Mitch and Rich bumper stickers on their cars.
I liked brooks so no that's not true. The past is the past. It's not impossible to change the culture of a program. Mitch is a terrible AD as far as football goes and is in a long line of bad ones. I would like to see a change in that. if you like that WKU and Louisville are way better then Kentucky then keep pumping up the great Mitch Barnhart.
Of course they do, but hiring the right or wrong coach ultimately affects revenue...
My point is, that if you have to hire someone else to tell you who to hire, you're probably not the right guy for the job!
Brohm at WKU is the guy they should consider. No more coordinators. Joker and Stoops should forever prove that doesn't work at schools in big time conferences.
