Remember though that the two before Mitch were C.M. Newton and Cliff Hagan. Both basketball guys.

I had season tickets for many years and dropped them in the great fan revolt of 2012. If UK brought in a real football AD, I would consider picking them up again. And before you start bashing me, ask yourself.... if fans had continued to show up, would Joker still be here? I think you know the answer to that.
LOL, you had season tickets before Mitch got here but dropped them in 2012? So the Hal Mumme disaster and Bill Curry disaster were cool but but 2012 wasn't? What was different?

Trying to remember..... think it had something to do with microwaves and agendas....

11/4/12:

On the pre-game show with Tom Leach this morning, Mitch Barnhart addressed the low attendance by thanking the “real fans” for coming to the game and said that those who are critical of Joker must have “personal agendas.”

I can handle some bad football, but don't start pulling this "agenda" crap.

for those who are Pro Mitch answer my post, why hasnt any college, anywhere, ever even put him on their short list if they are hiring an AD in the last 14 years? even the article that started this topic is just the ham-handed shooting in the dark opinion of a clueless columnist, does anyone really honesty think a ruthless place like UT-Knoxville would even consider hiring Mitch to oversee their renegade win at all cost football program?

2 things.

1. Mitch would like to be in the conversation, doesn't mean he will be. I would like to be in the next conversation on Minka Kelly's next boyfriend but I got a feeling she'll overlook me.

2. I get Mitch isn't well liked for years of neglect for football and his jump the gun stance to extend Stoops but the guy is doing it right now and I don't think UK will find anyone more focused on football like Mitch is now. His hiring practice still worries me but I can't think of another AD out there that come here that could do a whole lot better. At least one that UK could wrangle away from.
The only thing Mitch has shown himself to be good at is spending money. He should run for Congress instead.

MB football hires haven't worked out mostly but it's awfully difficult to attract top coaches when you've been a terrible program for eons . Money will not get you a top coach because someone better will match or exceed it . AD for UK football is one of the worst jobs in the country for a variety of reasons . Very little positive history , boosters care about basketball far more , toughest conference , tiny in state recruiting base , probations , lacking facilities . That's what Mitch inherited , very few AD's in the country got dealt that hand . I think UK is on the cusp of much better days , hopefully that happens and everybody can move past the bitterness .
Which post-1950's UK FB hires have worked out? Ever?

Are schools burning down Jurich's door? A better question would be, is UT interested in a bonafide FB AD like the man, the legend, the FB god known as Tommy "Football" Turtleneck? I know about the feigned USC story and the rumors of following cholly to Texas, but... If that's the measuring stick, I don't get your point.

Anyone but Mike Pratt. Please keep the basketball idiots away.
This is EXACTLY what should scare every UK FB fan about ousting MB. 9/10 UK AD's prefer BB. Always have, always will. As another poster in this thread has already quipped, "be careful what you wish for."

Bunch of damned witch burners in this thread.

See linked blog below. Tony B is one of the most respected UT insiders and media personalities, so I thought this was interesting. The layout is a bit cumbersome, but essentially, he says that Mitch would like to have his name in the conversation. This wish is then discounted because "Kentucky football is a mess." Interesting, considering Mitch's UT roots...

I will be happy to pay Barnsmart's bus fare to Knoxville.

well no, it isnt. you are the one who brought up Jurich, not me. Jurich isnt the only AD in the country who's name gets thrown out when job openings occur. why are you the one so focused on comparing Mitch to one other AD?

Yeah when we're clamoring to get rid of the national AD of the year we're really raised our standards for sure.

he won an award, shared with 3 other AD's. not "THE" national AD of the year.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 13, 2015) — University of Kentucky Director of Athletics Mitch Barnhart was named a winner of the Under Armour Athletics Director of the Year Award Tuesday, May 12, by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).

Barnhart was one of four selected in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, along with Chris Del Conte of TCU, Warde Manuel of Connecticut and Ian McCaw of Baylor. They will receive their honors June 17 at the annual NACDA awards luncheon in Orlando, Florida.

The only problem I have with Barnhart is fundraising. I understand that apparently he isn't comfortable schmoozing, but how many billionaires have some sort of tie to the Lexington area?
It's going to take money to get UK football where it can be. We're heading in the right direction, but I think Mitch is leaving money on the table.
That is one thing Jurich has on Barnhart.

Be careful what you wish for.

Do you really need help understanding why KENTUCKY football is in such a mess when our athletic director, a former UT assistant athletic director, suddenly proves that all along he would rather be back in KNOXVILLE? I swear, our fans are stupid-most people on earth. Mitch continues to outdo the reasons for why he needs to be run out of Lexington. Yet many of our fans still keep their heads warm up his butt.

The thought Barnhart would bolt makes your little heart flutter doesn't it?

Maybe this rumor will help Mitch gain leverage to con the UKAD for a big raise. In many cases, this is the real intent.
