I've changed my tune. I thought it would be much worse. Joe wasn't acting at all aggressive; his posture was relaxed until she became aggressive. His was a split second reaction to an attack. Looked like equal rights to me. She called him over, and he looked nothing more than curious. Pretty obvious he wasn't threatening in any way until she went after him. He reacted, probably as he's been conditioned to react. I'm sure now that he wished he'd walked away, but this tango definitely took two. Her drunk *** just picked the wrong dance partner.
If so, it'll damage his draft selection. Releasing the vid now, waiting a year for all to absorb makes me think he'd do better in the draft next year. But, you could very well be right.
BTW, after viewing the video, I still think the same way. Two kids doing things both will live forever regratting their actions. But he's paid is price at the OU, and he'll pay the price financially as well. And she'll live through humiliation the rest of her life. IMO, both are getting what they deserve.

This is my point. It was a terrible deal but there's nothing new to change anything that's already been done. Now had the video revealed something like after he dropped her he kicked her in the face, there would be something new to get upset about. But it didn't.
As far as I know, under Coach Stoops, OU has always done the right thing. Whether it's kicking a guy off the team for smoking weed or not going to class, or booting Rhett Bomar, or suspending Dusty Dvoracek and allowing him to return, or bringing in DBG, or how he's dealt with Joe Mixon, I trust and support our leadership making those decisions.
The girl should not have put her hands on him period. The name calling he could ignored,slapping him is a whole different situations. I always say you're big enough to start a fight you're big enough to get your butt whipped!
I said when it happened that there is never an excuse for a man to hit a woman, never. Officials (DA and OU) who originally viewed the video and decided not to prosecute obviously had more information than just the video. Eye witness testimonies, etc to come to the conclusions that were made. How many times does a person have to pay for an incident (not judged a crime)? Obviously the media and many others think once is not enough. Not defending Mixon, just hate what this is doing to the OU brand. Let it go, let it go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I felt the same way you did at the time the incident happened, and the way you do now. But this isn't going away. All the networks are wading in and the big question each have asked is what many of us asked initially. "If Mixon had been a 3rd string linebacker would he had been allowed to remain on the team?" Be honest if you answer! Regardless, what's done is done, so don't be surprised about all the negative press Joe, Bob and Boren get. Not to mention OU and Mixon.

By law it was charged as a misdemeanor, if that is the charge then what OU did was appropriate. ESPN and sports announcers are already having a hay day with this. I hope he has learned. The girl, I hope she has learned something. She better not put her hands on Ronda Rousey.

I don't think the legality of what happened is the issue. Joe clearly was an assault victim, okay. That's not what people are questioning. Mixon knew he had screwed up a second after the girl fell to the floor. He immediately turned and left the restaurant and I imagine he was feeling that hot rush that you get when you know that you have f***ed up big time. Like getting stopped by a cop after a night out drinking. So he knows he shouldn't have hit her. And that's the issue. Now Bob is going to be judged by the masses, which is not good for OU. None of us should be surprised, or upset with those that persist to question his motives.
