Starts tonight on MLB Network. Thompson looking to be the earliest UK pitcher ever drafted. He would have to go top 5 to beat out Everett Murray as the highest UK player ever drafted.

Also... anyone know Everett Murray's story? He was drafted 5th overall by the Orioles in 1975 and played a year of rookie ball in the Appalachian League for Bluefield where he hit .286. He returned in 1976, but only had 3 plate appearances through 3 games. Did an injury or something worse derail his career?

Can't find anything other than stats. Bet Coach Madision would know.

Saw somewhere that at #12 he would only get 2.8 million...that can't be true is it.
https://www.mlb.com/news/2019-mlb-draft-pools-and-bonus-values

Scroll a little and it has the amount for each pick. It’s also a budget. Teams can spend more or less on that individual allotted pick amount but they can’t go over 5% of their team budget without being penalized.

Jackson Rutledge will be going first round and is a Kentucky signee from juco. Needless to say, he won’t be pitching for UK next season.

Guess Rutledge would go to Vandy if he'd signed there...stick another dagger in.

I’ve been trying to follow the tracker but has any other UK player or signee been drafted?

It speaks that they may have more coming back / in than originally thought which I would think is a good thing. But I’m an optimist.

Hopefully, but I think we still lose a good chunk of draft eligible guys, and a part of that is the coaching staff and a part of it is the season we had.

Can’t disagree with that CB. The waiting game is the nature of the beast in college BB. Not my favorite part, that’s for sure.

Lucas Knowles goes in the 14th to Washington. Big decision for him. Will he bet on himself and try to be a Friday night SEC guy to better his stock for the 2020 draft? I hope so.

He should all but be guaranteed a weekend role this upcoming season, and Friday is more than up for grabs. We need to hope that Washington signs everyone in their first 10 rounds and that they don't have as much money to throw to him to get him to play for them.

So far they've only drafted 1 senior, so maybe they will have to pay slot value for most of their picks.

Oraj Anu goes at the end of the 16th round.

He is going to be really interesting at that spot as well. I mostly understood, albeit possibly incorrectly, that he wouldn't be a guy to make it on campus. However, round 16 is kind of a tweener spot. Some rankings had him as a top 300 prospect and he falls to spot number 497. So, why did he fall over 200 spots? Is it because he expressed a desire to go play more college, or because he had a season that wasn't as remarkable, just how the cookie crumbled, or did others pass him up?

He hit .390 with 11 home runs, 60 RBI and 5 stolen bases. Seems like a good candidate to play a corner outfield spot. MLB.com has him as a LF.

^ Think this past year was his first playing the OF based on what I’ve read and not sure that was for a full season. Can hit but where can he play is probably the biggest question?

Another one who could probably himself with a year of SEC ball to prove he can play a corner OF position.

Those are 2018 stats. 2019 has him with 19 HRs and 66 RBI. But as you know it's hard to translate JUCO stats to SEC. (See Dalton Reed among others)

I don't know, but if he has the athleticism and can hit then they will find a spot for him regardless.

Aw heck, I didn't check my year. Just went to the NJCAA website. That silly site is weird about the year.

Just saw that Griffin McLarty, a local kid from Oldham County that pitched for the College of Charleston, was the first pick of the 8th round, by Baltimore. I remember him from the 2011 Little League World Series. Looks like he turned out to be pretty decent - 8 and 4 this year, 1.87 ERA, 116 Ks against 20 walks, .183 OBA. Could have used him in Lexington, I'd say.....

So, am I seeing things right. The draft is in round 31 and the only UK player drafted has been ZT?

2 UK signees were drafted.

RHP Sam Wibbels was selected in the 36th round to the Nationals.

SS Jaden Brown was drafted in the 40th round by the Nationals as well.

So, no Collett, no Shelby. What a rough year.

Collett is just too injury prone, Shelby really didn't tear it up this season by any means. Both should play summer ball or in Collett's case, work on getting in the best shape of his life. Both need to return in 2020 !

This was Collett’s first full year, but it wasn’t necessarily an impressive one. He hit just .259 with 10 total home runs. More concerning is that the average dropped to .214 and just 4 of those 10 home runs came in league play. So, his year was pretty terrible. Shelby too struggled in league play hitting .215 with 3 home runs.

Collett also has to fend with the notion that he can basically only be a DH. Still, it will be interesting to see what these guys do going forward. Shelby, by all accounts is not currently on a summer league team. I am not sure if Collett is, but I cannot specifically remember him being mentioned as being on one. So, that means they may very well be playing in lesser leagues, if at all.

Collett is in the Cal Ripken League (Giants) along with Brendan Hord, Ben Jordan, and Brad Dobzanski. (don't know if he is still with uk?)

Why was Jaden Brown drafted so low. He has all the tools to be a stud, sure fire SEC caliber player. Was he hurt ? I think the 40th round selection should bring him to Lexington.

Thank you. I hope that he is with the team still. We really need some pitchers to step up and I'd like to see both Jordan and Dobzanski turn things around after their hard luck injuries.

Sometimes it is because the player has basically told the professional team that they are going to go to college regardless. Other times it is because they demand a certain amount of money and that amount is more than teams think he's worth at the time. So, late in the draft a team may take a chance on them and throw money and a contract at them to see if it changes their mind. If not, then they just lost a 40th round pick, no big deal. If so, then they probably got a steal late in the draft and maybe for a bargain.
