Tough one for the Mariners. They were up 3-2 in the series, but failed to close it out in games 6 and games 7.

They made some aggressive trades at the deadline to try to win it all, but came up a game short of getting to the WS.

Where was this Jeff Hoffman at the end of last season (for the Phillies)?

It really looked like the Mariners were going to win G7, until Springer's HR in the bottom of the 7th.

It should make for an interesting WS. It would also be interesting to see the stats for WS teams that locked-up their ticket far earlier than the other team.

My recollection is that they tend not to do so well. 🤷‍♀️

Varsho goes yard on Snell, to the deepest part of the park, in the bottom of the 4th

Blue Jays making Snell work, 73 pitches through 4 innings.

it's tough to do, as his pitches flirt around the edges of the zone. But if you're disciplined, it's possible.

In the NLDS, the Fightins when they faced Snell had the dual whammy of not being disciplined enough, and an ump behind the plate that kept expanding the zone for Snell.

Edit: and the Blue Jays chase him in the bottom of the 6th, as they load the bases with no out.

As the Fightins showed, if you get to the Dodgers' 'pen, you can do some damage.

After Snell was taken out, the Blue Jays went:
- single (scored 1 run)
- walk (scored 1 run)
- single (scored 1 run)
- force at home on a chopper to 3rd
- grand slam

9-2, Blue Jayes in the bottom of the 6th, and still only 1 out

And the Jays weren't done in the bottom of the 6th, as they go single and HR to take an 11-2 lead.

From G3:

the 2nd of the Dodgers 2 solo HRs:

the Blue Jays get on the board in a big way in the top the 4th:

and then the Jays get another in the top of the 4th:

Inexcusable. The Blue Jays would have had runners at 1st and 2nd with no outs. The umpire should be booted from baseball for pure incompetence.

Blue Jays had a relatively rotund and slow PR thrown out at home in the top of the 10th trying to score from first on a two out double.

From an outsider that doesn’t know the Blue Jays thoroughly, the use of that guy as a PR is an interesting decision.

This game is wild. It's now in the top of the 14th. Both teams have had multiple opportunities to score in extra innings, but so far, have not been able to get the key hit.

I want this to go long enough to see what LA does if Klein hits his limit. He hasn’t gone more than 2 innings all year. He just throwing until his arm falls off?

And yet, he's still pitching in the 18th -- his 4th inning of work.

if I recall correctly, he was the only guy left on the bench and this is who he was sent in to pinch run for.

No doubt a bad strike call by the home plate umpire. OTOH, there was no delay in making the call regardless of how bad it may have been. There should have been no confusion on the part of the baserunner. Bichette has the responsibility of being sure of the call before walking toward second. Garbage call though.

Oh my. If you had asked me last night, I would have thought it was the same guy. Past my bedtime and was confused. Did not come close to seeing the end.

I think the guy in your picture did score from first on a hit late in the Seattle series.

It was an honor to watch that classic last night. When it’s good, no game is better than baseball.
I tapped out after the 13th inning but you’re right. So much fun to watch. And much less anxiety ducking when it’s not my team playing.

I disagree with you here. It was a pretty obvious ball but there was a delay in him making the call. That is no time for umpiring flair or style. That call should be made loudly, demonstrably, and loudly.

There was no delay, flair, or style there. He missed the pitch, but the timing on it was perfect.
