Mods: set up a system where new posters have to wait a week before they can start posting.

A waiting system would be nice but that's way above the paygrade of anyone here. That would be up to Rivals/Yahoo who manage all the technology, and it might require some major technical work, as this is a "canned" system designed to work a certain way.
Yeah, I didn't think it was something to mods could do themselves. I'm just surprised this feature isn't built into whatever off the shelf message board platform Rivals is using.

Who is the person who keeps making new accounts?
It's not a bot. It's a person that's just obnoxious and/or some mental imbalance. It's not hard to do what they're doing, you just need time and effort. It's most likely someone who's unemployed and needs attention. Again, it would be sad. But I have no sympathy for anyone that chooses to anyone and harrass strangers for no reason at all.

EDIT- I'm talking about the one user who's been creating new real user accounts for months, not all this new automated spam crap we're seeing now.

It's ridiculous that we have to sift through pirated film threads, gay porn gifs (four years ago), and guys who have been banned (only to create a new account minutes later).

Please do something about this. Rivals is actually putting the whole message board community at risk for gratuitous or even illegal content to be posted.

I don't understand why they don't have a waiting period.
Maybe 6 months probation

Been here for years. The change was garbage AND it removed moderator features?! How do people get paid to produce trash?
Things like website and app UI has to constantly change so the designers and engineers justify their jobs. Spotify seems to change the layout of things on a monthly basis and the app keeps getting worse and worse because the high paid engineers have to work on something, so they just tinker.

Don’t disagree a bit. It’s a problem right now where I work. Changes being made in the name job justification. The changes never seem to help anything. Guess I’ve got some overflow aggravation going on. 😂

It's a **** show to be honest. I've reached out to Justin and others to try and make it clear to Rivals that it's ruining the message boards. It hasn't hit the HOB yet but I would not be surprised if that happens too. Maybe that's what it's going to take ;) It's one thing to have the weirdos posting from Moms basement creating multiple user names. Those can be taken care of with two clicks but since the last software update a vulnerability was created and it's a major issue that is going to start driving people away. Hell I'm about to give it up and I've been here for over 20 years. I don't' like spending two hours a day deleting SPAM posts.

I've been attempting to become a Mod for 2 months now and Rivals doesn't appear to be interested in adding additional help... for free mind you.

Sorry that the mod team has to go through this!

Just like when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor

Seriously some of ghe content and the thread hijacking by a certain poster has really dampened my enjoyment …guess they got what they wanted
I used to love posting here, too
The "certain poster" has been pampered by Rivals for years. They ban him, and then he just creates a new account. They're playing with fire, right up until the moment that worm of a human posts illegal content here. He's a worthless trash-level loser of a human and he's going to get what's coming to him in this world or the next unless he gets his soul straight.

Unfortunately you just described like 80% of industries. What’s ruined the general effectiveness of government agencies.

Can you name different user names past and most current of this "certain" poster ? I would like to know what kind of idiot I may be responding to and wasting my time debating.

Lmao why yes, yes it does
That sig is in honor of Cindog…don’t know if you remember her. She was a poster here who passed a few years ago…she was a good friend of mine

Yes I do now that I think about it. I definitely remember Cindog. I must have quit posting when she passed and don't remember it. I'm sorry we lost her I had no idea.

I think already you can only make like 5 posts a day untill you hit 250 posts unless you subscribe.

As for mods hyper deleting and banning I mean that could help in some ways but could get out of hand easily as well.

As for the site it's the same one used for Sherdog and I know mods there bitched about lack of control when that platform moved a year ago or upgraded......

You all may have seen Justin’s post about Rivajs working to stop the BOT attacks. Filters have been added that should help but according to Justin it’s more of a temp fix because ultimately they will find a way around those filters. Another change that is in the works is an approval process before posting privileges are granted. That should work similar to the OPs original suggestion and will help some with the he/she/they trolls that post from moms basement. It won’t completely stop it but should help

Thank you all for reporting the SPAM attacks. There are not always a lot of active moderators online and the reports really help.

Thank you for your efforts. Although I might point out that the problem is not just the SPAM attacks, but also trolls who constantly create new accounts so that they can post under numerous different names to mess with people. That nonsense has become a blight on this board. There is one weirdo, in particular, who must have hundreds of different names by now, as he creates new ones nearly every single day.

As the OP aptly noted, simply imposing a waiting period of a few days before new accounts can begin posting would likely make a huge difference in cleaning up that problem.

I don’t disagree. I’m hoping the feature to require approval before posting privileges are granted will help with “leadbelly”s of the world

Thank you for your efforts in helping with this process. I appreciate you. I think this will ultimately make the posting experience here dramatically stronger.

Wouldn’t a captcha stop bots?
