I've never heard of any other player outside of our program getting mono, and we've had four in recent memory, and two this year (Nance on the men's team and Lisa Burton on the women's team). Can any of you medical folks comment on this? Seems like we should be doing more to prevent our athletes from contracting such illnesses, unless I am missing something.

One of the announcers (Crispin maybe?) said that coaches always complain about kids getting sick over winter holidays. Our program does seem cursed with injuries and illness over the years, but such things are fairly common amongst high school and college kids.

Not much you can do to prevent mono in college kids, AFAIK. They're typically pretty dead-set on sharing drinks and swapping spit.

Well if Nance doesn't have mono tonight, does Falzon come in so early and ignite the comeback that led to victory?

I'm in college and ya a lot of people come down with it. Actually it's kinda funny how many of them are or former athletes and got it while playing now that think about. Guess I got lucky so far.

I'd find it hard to believe no player outside of our program has gotten it. If that's the case, we are really snakebitten as mono is very common among high school and college kids.

Our players just tend to do a lot more kissing than others. Seriously though I would guess that other programs have similar problems with injuries and illnesses and we are very aware when they strike our program but not so much when other programs are affected . We do seem to be more bit by the injury bug than other programs but both may me more of a case of we are thinner so each loss just hurts us more

Isn't it more likely with a weakened immune system? Players tend to worked pretty hard so maybe it is a case that they are a bit more run down and suseptible

mono, injuries and curses.
Actually, most players on this team are banged up. But how? What is banging them up? Me and my friends used to play all the time and none of us ever got hurt. I doubt they are hammering eachother in practice.
Curses? Twisting ankles getting off buses?
I can understand in football but for half our team to be wiped out on a yearly basis is a deal breaker. Toss in the administration rules that also boot players like Lathon.
