Monte Lee openly states desire for USC head coach job

If it happens, he better be working his butt off to prove everyone wrong.
A roll of the dice you wouldn't bet the house on and not sound based on the history.
Seemed to be enough for Beamer to land the job.
I feel like this is what is going to end up being the decision. He is doing alot of recruiting right now and getting people to come. I dont think these guys would be coming even for a visit if there wasnt something to this.
I am fine with this AS LONG AS he puts a really good staff together. I dont know if he can get Landon Powell to come as hitting coach from head coach gig but maybe it would help Powell get bigger job. I dont really know about Williams as pitching coach. I think he went with hand he was dealt so if he gets good players, then lets see what he does.

I like Lee. I got nothing against him. I wish him well and success, and if he is the next Headcoach, I hope he succeeds in that. I will cheer him on, but...
There are at least a few other candidates out there who must be given some serious pursuit... and maybe they are. If it is straight to Lee however, then I'll take it as sign of laziness or ineptitude by the AD and the Board, and they aren't really into getting the best guy.

Jack Leggett is back in the Clemson dugout as a consultant I assume. Maybe Tanner can go back in our dugout as a consultant.
I'd like to hear more details on his belief on "what it takes to win". I'd also like to know what he'd do differently than Kingston.
Probably will explain it without directly calling out Kingston. If it were me I would state my case with no concerns of the outgoing staff.

Is there anyone that GUARANTEES a college world series? All the names I have heard so far are not without some questions. I LOVE my alma mater, but fans seem to want the sure-fire hire. I have never seen one outside of Saban, and even then, there was no way to know it would be dominance on that level.
I am not an AD, and I know fan excitement is a part of any hire, but I have always felt we should get strong recruiters with ties to our State that can hire good assistants for development, and then give them time. While I understand we are a baseball power, and we want CWS every year, I just don't know that there is a coach out there that isn't a risk on some level. I think Monte fits most of my criteria.
My biggest concern with Monte is the fact he has been with the team for the last two years. I think the team has had some major inconsistencies. It has been up (Petry last year, the tear we went in mid-season in 23, the SEC tourney this year) but it has had some downs for sure (Petry this year, the late season collapse, how the SEC tourney ended, the loss in the regional, the lack of pitching rotation, depth and injuries, poor fielding). How much of that has Monte's fingerprints on it versus how much was solely on Kingston. I hope (and trust) in Ray to know that answer. If he makes the decision to go with Monte, then I have to believe he puts alot of our recent woes on Kingston and his decision making.

Of course he knows how to win, so did Kingston, they both had winning records, Kingston at USC and Lee at Clemson. But they both got fired for a reason, it's about winning the Supers and competing in Omaha.
I think it sets up well for Monte to coach for 7 years and then roll into the AD position, unless of course Dawn gets it, we are so messed up at USC.
