Joseph Hyland shrugs off pressure of taking over Grand Rapids West Catholic football dynasty

http://highschoolsports.mlive.com/n...-off-pressure-of-taking-over-falcons-dynasty/

Hyland pointed to two role models in his life, with one being his father and the other his high school football coach, Chris Andriano. Andriano has coached Lombard Montini to a 292-124 record dating back to 1979.

“He teaches football the right way,” Hyland said. “It has always been about the players. It’s never about him. These kids will never hear that it’s about me, my program or my team. It’s important for boys to know that when you go into the game of football, you respect the game. It’s going to give you a whole lot more in return as a man. There is nothing eternal about the game of football, as much as I love it, other than the sacrifices you make and the values and the virtues that you learn and acquire. You are going to carry that with you the rest of your life.

“At a certain point, you are going to hang it up and move on in your life, and if you have learned nothing but running fast and tackling, how does that make you a better man?”

DC already has 15 state titles as a coach in 3 different sports (wrestling, football, girls softball)

Whether it's Borsellino's, DC or Hyland taking over or a combination of the three (imagine that!) once Andriano decides to retire, Montini will still be in very good hands.

I have heard rumors of Coach Andriano's impending retirement for the last several years, and at least since 2012, it ain't happening at least anytime soon.
