Both have had legendary coaches retire.
Both stayed in house and hired their Defensive Coordinator as Head Coach.
Both are traditional 5a rivals.
Which has positioned itself for immediate and future success?

Got to say Montini. JC just isn't getting the kids in the building anymore. I think their numbers, enrollment wise are down and that is hurting them on the field.

I'm a Marian of the Heights guy.
What prevents JCA from becoming M of the Heights?
Both are on the same football decline, ie total number of students, surrounding public education programs being better, two legendary coaches retire, etc.)

Marian hasn't won a ESCC game in 5 years, I want both to be competitive but something has to give?

While some of the factors are similar, you cannot compare the football programs. JC has had one bad season after 20 seasons of being one of the top teams in its class. Marian hasnt been relevant in football in recent memory.

Montini will be fine. If a bad year is losing in the second round of the playoffs I'd say your program is in pretty good shape.

JCA is a different issue. With all the Plainfield programs starting to gain some traction the kids that came from a lot of the Plainfield feeder programs isn't heading there any longer.

The Plainfield Junior Cats program was a consistent pipeline to JCA. Unfortunately the quality of that program is not what it was.

I think the Hillmen could be in for a few bumpy years ahead.

Kinda sad to see Coach Sharp go out on a downer this year. He's a class guy and deserved to go out on top.

From the article, the below line will be key to JCA's football fortunes moving forward:

"The football numbers are down," Jaworski said. "We'll be going out in the community. We want to bring quality kids into the program."

My 2 cents:
Four-(4) different Head Coaches have led the Hilltoppers to State Titles (I know of no other program in Illinois that matches this) and I believe that Jake Jaworski will be the 5th to do so.
In my opinion, 2016 was an anomaly with a light Senior Class and injuries having a cascading impact.
The cupboards are not bare.
In 2016 the players were young, but heading into next year are now experienced.
He will lead a competitive team in 2017 and a very good team in 2018.
He himself was hockey player who decided to try Football when he arrived at Joliet Catholic.
The program formula since the 1950s has been to develop boys (like Jake Jaworski) at the lower levels into Football players to prepare them to win when at the Varsity level - only the most exceptional players would play on the Varsity as underclassmen.
Nearly every team has a few talented players that stand out from the others, but it is how the balance of the average talent is developed that enables (or does not) the exceptional talent to shine and results in victories.
If I were a betting man, I would wager that with a few more kids in the program, the formula will work for Jake Jaworski and the Hilltoppers.
Best wishes for Jake as he steps into history's shadow.
