He has never recruited a high profile prospect before, so it's all theoretical.
Which is the concern. Pope is freaking desperate and this is what you have to do when you're desperate. Sucks, but is what it is. I hope like hell it works out. I liked Mo as a player. Always thought he got a lot out of his ability, and played above expectation. Lets hope he can do the same coaching. I just hate having to rely on "hope" as a UK fan. Just not the way it should be.

I love the how they throw the former assistants under the bus. Hart was landing 5 stars at USC, so clearly he knows how to recruit. He gets to UK and Pope can close on none of them. The assistants sell the program, the head coach has to lock things down. Pope has not been able to do this repeatedly.

We’ll see how it goes with Mo. This is a 1 year hired gun type of hire.

We have not had a problem getting kids to the table... It's once at the table, keeping them.. Wither it's JMI or Pope, something has to change in approach and philosophy... You could have Wall, Davis and SGA as assistant coaches and recruiters.... If JMI sucks.... And Pope sucks at closing the deal.... Then it does not matter who you have getting kids in the door...

13 year NBA career with a ring and all SEC honors as a player will not hurt in conversations with players.
Plus he was a head coach at a Div. I school for what 3 yrs? That's a big deal that gets overlooked in my opinion. Not because he brings any system, etc. with him, but because as a former head coach he likely also understands what Pope really needs from him.

They will have to KILL it in the portal because there won’t be any recruiting next year if they don’t win so they and Mo are recruiting the portal. We all she see here in the next 3-4 weeks

I wonder if Stokes sees himself as a PG. The highlights I saw of him from his last stop, he was bringing it up quite a bit.

I haven’t seen enough of him besides highlights. Maybe he sees himself as a PG in the NBA and wants to learn under an ex-NBA PG.
I think you've hit on something, at least to the extent that he also appears to me to be a guy who not only fits the proverbial "wants the ball in his hands" mantra you hear ad nauseam, but actually demands to bring the ball up the court in spite of his team having a PG with a better handle. I noticed that watching actual game footage.

If that’s the case then playing for Pope wouldn’t be a bad call. His ideal system would have all five positions handling the ball.

1 of 2 things will happen

1. Its a great move, brings some recruiting clout, lands some legit players, and Mo stays on staff for awhile while his son improves and goes to the NBA.

2. The experiment didn't work out. Son plays average, transfers year 2 along with pops, and Pope is officially on the chopping block

I'll be praying for #1

You don't have to watch a lot of tape of him to figure out you just put the ball in his hands and get the hell out of the way.
