But head-to-head isn’t the end-all-be-all. It can’t be. If it was, we would decide our Playoff teams the way the NFL does. But we don’t. We have a subjective committee to parse through issues of worth. We have a subjective committee that, for instance, determines an unbeaten conference champ missing its starting quarterback is less deserving than a 1-loss team that didn’t play for its conference title. If head-to-head was the end-all-be-all, Texas wouldn’t be No. 2 and Georgia No. 5. If head-to-head was the end-all-be-all, Vanderbilt would have a case. If head-to-head was the end-all-be-all, Georgia freakin’ State would have a case.

South Carolina is playing better football right now. It has won 6 straight, including a victory over the previous No. 12 team in the CFP’s rankings on the road last Saturday. Alabama is 2 weeks removed from losing 24-3 to the 94th-ranked scoring offense in the country.

And, wait, why was Alabama slotted ahead of Miami?

“Both have had some losses that weren’t what they wanted out of those games,” Manuel said Tuesday night. “But in the last 3 games, Miami has lost twice.”

Huh.

I repeat, South Carolina has won 6 straight. Alabama lost to Oklahoma 2 weeks ago.

True Miami did lose twice. Once to GT, after the GT vs UGA 8 OT game, does not appear such a bad loss, and on the road to a 9-3 Syracuse team.

Bama won 2 out of its last 3 games. Auburn (5-7) and Mercer. (Mercer ?)
Then got curb stomped by Oklahoma 24-3.

I am having difficulties with the last 3 game argument pushing a 3 loss Bama team.

Yes, it appears that GT is the measuring stick this year. UGA's 8-overtime win at home propelled them up 2 spots in the poll this week while our road victory over #12 only moved us one spot.

GT is the new Notre Dame?

Only because it was an 8OT spectacle.
Otherwise, a 2-point win over GT is a negative.

It should still be a negative. UGA was a 20 pt favorite. UGA this season has played down to competition more than any team I've ever seen. They will probably be dangerous in the SECCG and playoff since they will take those games very seriously.

I know it was just the polls and not playoff committee. But earlier in the year, Bama lost to Vandy, beat us,then lost to UT. Vandy ascended into top 25 like Syracuse. Those 2 losses dropped them from #1 to #15

Here's the real math and how it works....

It's 2 spots reserved for ND and Ohio St right off the bat. + 5 conference champs ......which leaves 5 spots for teams to be "invited"

If Ohio St wins their conference championship (in any given year other than this year because they're out) ..... then that frees up 6 spots for invites.

This is what I believe, no matter what. It's largely a sham.
