BELLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- WARN notices were handed out to employees at Walker Machinery in Belle.

That is according to Chelsea Ruby, a spokeswoman for the state of West Virginia who says the company notified WorkForce West Virginia of the possible layoffs but has not indicated the number of affected workers at this point.

Ruby says the layoffs are expected to happen in mid-July.

According to WorkForce West Virginia, WARN notices must be filed in impending layoff situations by "employers with 100 or more full-time workers and the employer deems it necessary to do any of the following: "Close a facility or discontinue an operating unit with 50 or more full-time workers; Lay off 50-499 full-time workers (and these workers comprise at least 33 percent of the total work force at a single site of employment) or, layoff 500 or more full-time workers at a single site of employment."

WSAZ reached out to Walker Machinery Friday afternoon. The person who answered the phone also confirmed the WARN notices but declined to comment any further
