The nchsaa approved Morehead and McMichael to drop to 2a next year. They'll stay in the current conference during regular season and if they qualify for the playoffs they'll be seeded in 2a. In 2021 theyllt be placed in a 2a conference. Could that be the old Triad 3a as a 2a/3a split conference?

I find it hard to believe they have announced that the schools will be 2A more than a year before realignment.

Next alignment will be based on 2019 ADM and finalized in 2020.

True.... Morehead more so often than McMicheal however the benefit of travel plus being able to schedule two more non conference games should be reward enough.

It does make the conference a tad tougher. Wish it goes into effect next year

Yes, but under the current system (updated this year), a team in that situation would get seeded among the tier of wild cards, not conference champions.....after the 2017 situation with the winner of McDowell/South Caldwell in 4A and the winner of Granville Central/Louisburg in 1A and both of them were seeded among the 1s and both got a bye week before getting crushed at home in 2nd Rd.....of course, I did stress "under the current system", because: don't be surprised if the playoff qualifying/seeding format changes again by 2021 with that full realignment

Yes, remember this was from an appeal that the schools applied for I believe, not a standard thing....and of course, they have been known to reject appeals....and schools have been to not bother with making appeals and just bite the bullet and play up for a year or two

If you're correct, I'm afraid they'll stick Carrboro & NCSSM back in with the Granville Co. schools, all of whom figure to be 2A in 2021 Realignment...DSA figures to be 3A by then according to this year's numbers....if that happens though, they could leave Bunn in Northern Carolina, but probably not Roanoke Rapids, but you never know....I was all into looking at the map and working on this a couple of weeks ago but kind of lost my motivation for it after my beloved South Granville team made their 1st Rd exit in football...might get back after looking at potential realignment scenarios between now and the beginning of baseball season one of these days

Cumming and Graham might not exist then.

But it will open 2 non-conference slots early in the season. That could be just as rewarding as eliminating the Durham and Orange county conference road trips (mainly talking about the small team sports like tennis).

Now getting someone to agree to play Reidsville in football may not be that easy.

So in summary, when will Morehead and McMichael join the conference? Why wouldn't Rockingham drop down to 2A? I apologize if this is mentioned earlier in the thread.

Rockingham had 1123 students, McMicheal 943, Morehead 863 and Reidsville 708 in the latest ADM report.

Morehead and McMichael will stay in their current conference for two more years but will compete as 2-A schools in what now becomes a split conference (Mid-State 2-A/3-A).

The next realignment for new conferences is after two more school years. At that time, there will be a lot of shuffling and my guess is that Reidsville, Morehead and McMichael will be in a conference with Bartlett Yancey and what is left of Graham and Cummings.

If the Reidsville downward trend continues, who knows, maybe Reidsville will be 1-A size. Rockingham could also see a downward trend if the Bethany Charter School continues to claim students from what was once their territory.

A 1-10 team in the state playoffs is wrong under any circumstance.

I'm not sure if the nchsaa is going to call the Conference a 3a 2a split. In every sport other than football and most years in football, their conference is arguably one of the best in the state. Baseball is unreal. So much so in baseball and wrestling, Morehead can be a contender in both. McMichael softball can be a contender in softball for sure. That's in 2a. Neither will compete deep in football but other 2A sports rheythe be fine

The Bethany Charter school is expected to enroll about 100-150 in their class this fall. Many will come from the Reidsville Middle School and Rockingham County Middle.

In that area, do all kids going to one high school all go to middle school together??

Here in Granville Co., that is not exactly the case.....We have 3 traditional high schools (Webb, South Granville, Granville Central), not counting the Early College, and not counting the 2 charter schools (Falls Lake, Oxford Prep), and 4 middle schools....One middle school feeds almost exclusively into SG, one feeds about 10-20% to SG and the rest to GC, and the other two feed in Oxford mostly to Webb but some (not sure what %) to GC....How does it work in Rockingham Co.?

And for what it's worth....it's really easy to know who went where I grew up in Gates Co......the entire county has ONE middle school and ONE high school (and ONE stop light....yes, you read that correctly).......but anyway, no charter schools (that I know of anyway), no private, unless you went to Albemarle School in Elizabeth City or Ridgecroft over towards Winton/Ahoskie....we do have 3 elementary schools to feed into the middle (4 back in the late 1980s & 1990s when I was coming through) but the high school coaches pretty much know exactly what they have on the way

One county school which is Rockingham and they have one middle school which is Rockingham Middle. Reidsville is the only city high school and has a middle school next door which is Reidsville Middle. Most kids that go to Reidsville middle go to Reidsville High same for Rockingham kids. The mixture for the charter school comes from a mix of reidsville and rockingham kids. Also a majority of kids that attend Bethany Elementary end up attending the bethany charter school. I expect their student enrollment to increase a lot in the next few years. They open a new grade each year. I think now they have middle school and 10th grade

I'm not sure if the nchsaa is going to call the Conference a 3a 2a split.
This from the NCHSAA:
McMichael High School: Request to be reclassified from 3A to 2A was approved. Effective 2019-2020, McMichael will compete as a 2A member of the Mid-State 3A Conference (creating a split conference).
Morehead High School: Request to be reclassified from 3A to 2A was approved. Effective 2019-2020, Morehead will compete as a 2A member of the Mid-State 3A Conference (creating a split conference).

My grandchild attends Bethany Elementary fifth grade and will be moving on to Rockingham Middle for 6th grade. But several classmates (friends) will attend the Bethany Charter.
That will have a long-lasting impact on numbers, and eventually, athletics.

Yes. Enrolling the 9th grade next fall which will give Bethany Charter all four classes 9th to 12th.
