It’s a vile word meant to demean. It shows ignorance when a White or Black person says it.
1. No sympathy for the dude. Used an ugly, vile, reprehensible word. Is a celebrity, so he should assume he’s being recorded at all times.
2. It saddens me that we’re at a point where there is no reasonable expectation of privacy anymore. Easy to applaud when it’s a celebrity (part of the deal that makes them rich and famous), and is doing something stupid. But once that door is open, it’s open. In the future, the only place where anyone will be assured of privacy is the bathroom stall. Maybe. We’re giving up a lot.
3. There’s a disconnect on this issue, which admittedly I just don’t get. If we all agree it’s a hateful, vile word, why can’t we all agree no one should use it? This is sounding like other politicized issues - violent protest is criminal, unless you support those protesting or their cause; dozens gathering in a church or restaurant during COVID is a public health threat, but thousands gathering in the streets to march is OK. etc.

Country music is so fake and one-note at the moment that it’s a disgrace to the artists that came before – as many of them have said publicly. It’s basically a bunch of frat boys trying to out red-neck the others, singing about trucks, river banks, old dirt roads, cranking down the windows (haven’t power windows been standard equipment for a quarter of a century now?), long-neck beer, and a weirdly pervasive trend of calling females “girl” over and over — and not in the same way The Temptations sang “My Girl” or Gavin Degraw crooned “I’m In Love With A Girl”, but the way you might call your dog.
