MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 27, 2019) – The West Virginia University baseball team has earned the No. 15 national seed and learned the three other teams that will play in the 2019 NCAA Morgantown Regional from Friday, May 31 – Monday, June 3, at Monongalia County Ballpark.
The Mountaineers (37-20) have earned their 13th NCAA Championship berth in program history and first since 2017. WVU, an at-large team, will host an NCAA Regional for the second time in school history and first since 1955.
West Virginia, seeded No. 1 in its regional, will host No. 2-seed Texas A&M, No. 3-seed Duke and No. 4-seed Fordham. The Mountaineers will open play against Fordham on Friday, May 31, at 8 p.m. ET, on ESPN3, while Texas A&M and Duke will meet in Friday’s first game, at 4 p.m.
On Saturday, June 1, the winners of Friday’s games will meet at 7 p.m., while the losers will play at 2 p.m. in an elimination game. On Sunday, the winner of Saturday’s elimination game and the loser of Saturday’s winner’s bracket contest will square off at noon, with the winner advancing to the Regional Final to face the winner of Saturday’s winner’s bracket game at 6 p.m. If necessary, a seventh game will be played on Monday, at 4 p.m.
WVU is making its 13th NCAA appearance in program history and first since 2017, when the Mountaineers advanced to its third Regional Final in program history in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The last time West Virginia hosted an NCAA event was the 1955 NCAA District III Championship, when Wake Forest won a best-of-three series, 2-1.
The Mountaineers enter the NCAA Championship with a 37-20 record, which includes a 17-5 mark at home. The 37 wins are tied for second-most in program history, and West Virginia is coming off a Big 12 Championship Game appearance last week. WVU finished fourth in the Big 12, the No. 2-ranked RPI conference in the country, with a 13-11 record, tied for its best league mark since joining the conference.
West Virginia welcomes Fordham, Texas A&M and Duke to Morgantown for the first time, while A&M is the first SEC baseball team to ever play at WVU.
Fordham, the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament champion, is making its sixth NCAA Championship appearance and first since 1998. The Rams posted a 38-22 overall record and went 15-9 in the A-10, finishing fourth. Fordham went a perfect 4-0 in its conference tournament, defeating Richmond, 7-6 in 10 innings, VCU, 2-1, Dayton, 4-2, and then the Flyers again, this time 4-3 in 12 innings to win the title.
The Mountaineers last played the Rams in 2003, and hold a 3-1 lead in the series.
Texas A&M enters the Morgantown Regional as an at-large selection with a 37-21-1 overall record and a 16-13-1 mark in the SEC to place fourth in the western division. In the SEC Tournament, the Aggies defeated Florida, 8-7, in 10 innings before dropping the next two games to No. 6 Georgia, 2-0, and to No. 23 Ole Miss, 1-0. This marks the 35th NCAA appearance for Texas A&M, who own a 143-76 NCAA record.

Duke, an at-large team from the ACC, is making its eighth NCAA Tournament appearance and owns a 16-16 mark. Duke comes in with a 31-25 overall record and a 15-15 mark in the ACC to finish fourth in the Coastal Division. In the ACC Tournament, the Blue Devils defeated Notre Dame, 10-6, before losing to eventual tournament runner-up, Georgia Tech, 5-4.
WVU and Duke have met in the NCAA Tournament once before, a 7-3 Duke win in 1961 in Gastonia, North Carolina. The Blue Devils are 7-3 all-time in the series, and the two teams last met in 2014.

Based on availability, all-session tickets will go on sale to the public through the Mountaineer Ticket Office at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28. If available, information regarding single-game ticket availability will be announced on Wednesday, May 29.
Tickets for full-time WVU students will be available on game day at the Monongalia County Ballpark ticket windows. Tickets will be free for WVU students with a valid student ID only to games that WVU plays in. Tickets to all other games will be $10. Students from other participating schools presenting a valid student ID from their institution can purchase a $10 general admission ticket at the Monongalia County Ballpark ticket windows on game day.
