Though they carry that nostalgia factor, it has to be better than the originals. Those are good if you want a laugh though.

At 2:24, in your opinion is that an attempt at an animality, Reptile or something else?

Well it's a reptile, but I doubt it's Reptile simply because I doubt they'd show Kano killing him in the first trailer. Who knows though.

Edit - I missed Kabal when I watched the trailer the first time.

Good eye.

Regarding the killing of Reptile you’re probably right. But I’ve seen crazier things.

In today's woke society, who can we bet is the winner? Is Sindel in the movie? Though now that I think about it, Shang Tsung has to be the winner. It is evil and can be anything it wants to be. A natural winner for the woke-patrol.

I'll need to watch the trailer again, but I believe when Kano shot his eye lazer, they angled it so you couldn't see the eye it self, just a lazerbeam coming from the unseen portion of his face.

If thats the sorta corners they'll cut, could be a rough movie. Although the rest looked decent.

Man I loved the original in the movies when I was 12. Still remember going to the theatre and being pumped. Will absolutely not watch this since I’m not a loser but definitely good memories.

Well the budget's only estimated at around 50 mil at most, and the director, Simon McQuoid, is a commercial director who's never been in charge of a feature-length production before. So expect corners to be cut, crucified, and burned. XD

@martinsm30, about Johnny Cage:

The screenwriter says that since Kano essentially serves Cage's role in this film, he decided to save Cage for a potential sequel instead of just shoehorning him in.

https://www.cinemablend.com/news/25...the-movie-greg-russo-kano-josh-lawson-hbo-max

The first seven minutes of the movie's up on YouTube.

IMHO, the introductory brawl's pretty uninspired. The editing could be better too: the way it's cut makes it look as if the bodies of Scorpion's victims just vanish into thin air when Scorpion runs over to Sub-Zero. XD

Just watched it. It was ok. Not a huge fan of the storyline. It was pretty cheesy but what do you expect with the subject matter. Probably only a slight improvement over the original one.

Of course special effects were much better with the technological advancements in the 25 years since the original. They left it open for sequels but not sure if it will do well enough at the box office for that to happen.

Entertainment value makes it a must see.

I guess they're already planning sequels which is good. Didn't see it yet. But I imagine there was soooo much to cram in just 2 hours. I'd almost rather they leave characters off for now, and then add them in later installments.

Excited to watch it.

Definitely to much for that 1 movie. Ended up feeling like they just threw a bunch of random fights together at the end as an afterthought. I also thought the cast was kind of weak. Only recognized maybe 3 or 4 actors (I figured out a few others after the fact).

So there wasn't a lot of big star power in it. I would have slipped in a few big names if I wanted to work toward a sequel, but then I am not sure there are a lot of recognizable Asian action stars these days (not a lot of action stars period). It could have been better, but it could have also been worse.

I basically agree with all of this. Seemed like lazy writing that knew nostalgia would keep us interested. The script was bad. Cheesy one-liners at times. And a pretty predictable plot. Also seemed like they tried to force a backstory when it didn’t fit. But hey, I still watched and will watch any sequels they come out with.

Not gonna get big star power in a movie like this without Marvel or DC in the title.

I went in watching for nostalgia and enjoyed it from that. Some of the lines were cheesy but got entertained seeing which characters came out and if they did their moves.

Also, threw a nod in there to the bad players back in the day during the training with Lui Kang and Kano, when Kang kept hitting him with the leg sweep and Kano asked him if that's the only move he's got.

I thought it could have lasted longer to build up the characters and have training last longer. Last 45 minutes was like hurry up mode

Opening 10 minutes was good then all downhill from there. Nobody knows how to make a movie anymore.

Thats my thoughts too. There is enough for a good movie to be made from Mortal Kombat and it’s characters. This just wasn’t it.

I thought it was a huge letdown. Trailers looked good & everything I had heard leading up to it sounded promising. I wasn’t expecting a classic but I expected better. Writing & story was bad, CGI was laughable & the acting & score sucked too. Some of the fight choreography was good, though. I honestly think the story mode, cut-scene movies in the last few games were better.

The potential is there for an amazing film franchise & they could use the MCU format of solo, origin movies leading to team ups or future MK tournaments. And, I know they teased Johnny Cage at the end but he needed to be in this one, IMO. Just a big swing & miss, IMO. I’ve been a fan since the first MK game & I really wanted it to be good. Hopefully, the sequels will improve.

Kano was pretty cool, as was Kung Lao and Scorpion. Sub Zero was okay too. Goro was shockingly bad. Shang Tsung was awful. Jax and Sonya Blade were irrelevant. And of course, the story sucked ***. The main character, Cole, was awful. I wanted him to die so badly.

I did like the use of actual in-game fatalities and moves, especially Liu Kang's bicycle kick and various other moves. Maybe next movie, we'll see an actual tournament.

Kano and Hanzo were pretty much the only characters I cared for. The story should have basically been Bloodsport with over the top cgi fatalities.

So much potential there if they went full Christopher Nolan dark with it and the opening was kind of promising. It almost felt like they gave up and said "screw it, let's grab the money" after the first 10 minutes.
