NFHS not professional broadcasting at its finest, but if you can't make it to playoff game(s), for $9.95, can't beat the value in that ticket.
I get it, intermittent broadcast disconnects are vexing, overall gotta love the amateur elements of the broadcasts, it's not so perfect and reflects HS football.
Loyola Marist Game - it's what you would expect, Comcast 100 paid-for announcers, it had a professional feel to it, and so was play and talent level of game. Just what you expected.
Sterling / MCC Game.
It was best surprise game of weekend and special props goes to Sterling's NFHS broadcast booth play-by-play announcer (even though game was in Woodstock?).
Edgy thread for Sterling / MCC leading up to game has to be voted most entertaining thread of week.
For all sniping about The vaunted MCC Clay-Sogged Watered-Down Doctored-up Peat-Bog Field, loved that the field was a bit sloppy, both teams had to adjust, got dirty and muddy, just like the classic old-school games.
The missed fumble call in end zone by referees (in favor of MCC) was a big one that ultimately was big, but didn't decide the game. Props to Sterling fans for not dwelling on it.
Even tho Tv announcer was a "Sterling Network" guy, he was a very likable chap, stayed for most part impartial, surprisingly good broadcast voice and called a good game, he got choked up after game ended for his Sterling team, quaint small-home-town pride, it was HS football at its finest.
Color announcer hysterical (not knocking the guy, just saying his enthusiasm was contagious). He could have been a stand-in for Chris Farley on SNL as Motivational Speaker, living in a van, down by the river. When Sterling missed a key play in Q4, could hear him yelling in headset mic, over top of play-by-play guy, ... "GOL-DANG-IT!!!."
Icing on cake, were post game interviews with Sterling players in "Broadcast Booth." Booth was essentially two steel fold-up chairs in a plywood box that resembled a duck-hunting blind. Replete with Motivational Speaker greeting each Sterling player into broadcast-booth camera-view with Donald Trump's now-famous simultaneous handshake / arm pull / back slap. Don't know which element the Sterling Players were more stunned by, being in front of TV camera, or being greeted into Broadcast booth by larger-than-life Motivational Speaker.
Great weekend of playoff games, but if I have to vote for most entertaining broadcast production on a shoe-string budget ... my vote goes to Warrior / Cane match-up this weekend.
