Most likely to get their 1st?

5 schools (Stevie, Naz, Wilmington, Pearl City and Forreston) won their first ever state titles last year. That’s the most since 4 schools “broke the seal” in both 2005 and 2006. Which schools are most likely to get their first one this year? Sentimental favorites?

7A - GN has been a real good program for a long time, but the Panthers would arguably have the hardest road just to get to the quarters, with MC and GW in the way – but should they get past those first 2 games, they might be the favorite?

6A - LWN is my sentimental “favorite” – what a way to go out!

4A - Phillips looks like they will give Rochester a challenge in 4A, and I think it would be kinda cool for CPS to finally get one

Anyone else have “breakthrough” teams or sentimental favorites?

Once you "break the seal" you win so many more right after. You almost can't stop.

And it only gets worse if you happen to be, let's say, a more experienced, program. Maybe I should have went with the "pop the cherry" euphemism...

Glenbard North is 0-4 in championship games.

Is there a school that has been to a championship game more times without winning?

Lexington and St. Joes-Ogden are both 0-5 in championship games. Bloomington is also 0-4 in championship games, although they won a self proclaimed public school championship in 2005 I believe.

On the flip side, Driscoll won 8 championships without ever losing a championship game. Simeon has been to the most playoffs (31) without winning a title and Joliet Catholic and Mt Carmel have been to the most title games (17)

Yes, Althoff has won three (I was on two squads), but anointing Rochester - the favorite for sure - the title winner is premature.

Alleman is also 0-5 and Unity (Tolono) 0-4)...
