With the passing of Trapper keeper, I'm throwing my hat in the ring that M*A*S*H was a completely overrated, unbearable TV show that everyone still gushes over.

What's yours?

+1

Could not stand MASH as a kid or as an adult.

100 percent true. Very first thing that popped in my head when I read the thread title.

Friday Night Lights. Other than Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton the acting on that show was comparable to All My Children. I couldn't make it through the first two seasons.

Who the hell was ever overrating Girl Meets World? God, even BMW was awful. Yeah, great when I was 10.. have you seen re-runs? Good lord, It's cheesier than lifetime movies.

Boy Meets World actually gets a vote from me.

South Park. Whoever says they love it, or they quote a segment, I automatically think they don't have an intelligence above an 8th grader.

I've tried to watch it a few times many years ago. So stupid, and the humor is terrible.

Dude, for real? That's one of the few shows that didn't have a decline over 5 years. I really enjoyed that show especially seasons 3-5. Season two sucked because of the writer's strike and didn't get a proper ending.

As for overrated, there's a ton of options. Lost comes to mind. Crap like Modern Family should never get awards.

Trying to think of what else was overrated. In hindsight, Entourage.

I'm trying to find a nice way to say this...

But this might be the most flat-out wrong take I've seen in months...

It's been arguably the smartest comedy on TV for about 10 years. They don't care who they offend. For many seasons they we're writing shows as they went, coming up with GENIUS takes on current events. And they totally switched the format and still succeeded.

The only thing I'll say is that seasons 1 through 5 weren't topical, and were instead based on adventures the characters had. More dick and fart jokes. I can MAYBE see why those seasons turned you off, but if you don't find the genius in the last decade of South Park, you need to check your pulse.

I couldn't do it man. Smash made me want to smash my head in. And Matt, geez just say the frickin line kid. I don't need you to telegraph everything for me. I liked the banter between Chandler and Britton and that was about it. And I liked the kid that's playing in everything now; Matt's friend.

Yeah, the Matt character's delivery drove me freaking nuts and Smash's delivery was like "Yeah, dude. I hear you. Use your inside voice." Matt's friend played that psycho in Breaking Bad.

But Taylor Kitsch was awesome and Chandler and Britton were top notch, in my opinion. Season 3-5 are definitely my favorites. It's also one of the few shows that was loved by critics but had terrible ratings and ended up getting 5 years. That's unusual.

I just realized while trying to think of this list, that there's not a ton of shows that I absolutely loved.

I think Dexter, Entourage and Sopranos were all good shows for a few seasons and then had massive declines and were very overrated after awhile.

I never got into a lot of shows that a lot of people seem to like (Orange is the new Black, Walking Dead, Mad Men) but I will stand by my statement that Lost was overrated.

Never liked Entourage. Entourage was Sex in the City for guys. And similar cast I wanted nothing to do with.. I'd never try and hook up with Sarah Jessica Parker just like I'd never wan to hangout with Adrien Grenier or Matt Dillon's little brother.

I get the appeal of a show like Entourage. Let's show the "good life".. a bunch of dudes living it up with money cars and girls. The characters were just "meh". And Entourage fans made too many excuses for bad acting and no one all that funny. "Dude, Turtle got high last episode, it was great" or "How about Dillon's 'Victory' line! Classic!".. Missed the mark for me.

I think a show like Ballers can succeed (for me) where a show like Entourage failed. Rob Corddry is infinitely funnier than the entire Entourage cast put together.

Edit: Excluding Piven, he's pretty funny, but really fell off in Hollywood. Word is he's an insufferable a-hole. The worst of the worst, and for H-wood standards, that's pretty bad.

My age when the show started played a part in my initial liking of the show. When you're younger, acting like douchebags with money and getting stoned and hooking up with models seems like "so cool."

After awhile you grow out of that and you see the characters as just unlikable tools. I bounced after season four.

Ballers was not very good but I watched all of it because I'm a huge Dwayne Johnson fan.

I think we're similar ages if I remember correctly. Some of the few Paddock posters with life ahead of them, unlike the rest of these old bags of dirt waiting to die.

I don't mind stoner comedy or bro-comedy at all. Normally, I'd love a show like Entourage.. But the characters just weren't that good. Drama and Turtle were mediocre at best. As far as bro-characters would go, there was no Ron Swanson or Tom Haverford, or guys like Nick and Schmidt from "New Girl" (Which is on my list of most underrated shows).

I met Jake Johnson, the guy that plays Nick in "New Girl" when I attended the red carpet premier of "Let's Be Cops." Pretty cool guy.

I'm not above stoner or bro comedy either. It's just the characters weren't likabe. I hated Turtle. Drama stopped being funny and just watching then hook up and be dbags with money just started growing old.

Big fan of Swanson on Parks and Rec. Hated Tom though.

Did any of you all get into Dexter when it was good?

I'll tell you a show that's UNDERRATED in the grand scheme of things was "Rescue Me." I forgot how much I liked that show.

They all seemed like whiny b*tches in Entourage.

That's awesome you met JJ. Let's Be Cops wasn't anything great, and it felt like a New Girl side-project. But still made me laugh. His character in New Girl is one of my current favorites.

No Tom fan, huh? I think what was funny about him is that this is exactly how Aziz's comedy is, and probably how he is in real life. It was funny to watch and Indian attempt to be a total baller.

Rescue Me was great. But another show that just crapped it's pants later on. I swear, do these writers only plan for 3 seasons with no contingency plan if it actually succeeds? How many baby-mama drama episode did we have to endure in the end? For every 10 fights between the Tommy/Brother/Wife love triangle, we had 1 firefight. Last few seasons were rough.

Still, the chemistry between the firefighter brothers was amazing. Tommy, Lou, Garrity, Franco, Jerry, Probie. You could easily have a show with just those guys shooting the ish around the fire station.

HIMYM, BBT, and Duck Dynasty are all atrocious.

Shocked to see shows like Mad Men, The Wire, Seinfeld, and South Park in this thread. What on earth do you people watch?

I agree with Kooky. MASH is the most overrated show of all time. I never thought it was funny, and at the time probably a third of the country loved it. Not many choices back then. Today it would be just another show.

Sex and the City... Not only did I never see a full episode, but wondered aloud how ANYBODY could find SJP attractive. ***** is butt.
SJP is butt ugly, but men were NOT their target audience AT ALL (so I can't judge it fairly, but agree it sucked).

MASH I loved as a kid. Have watched it a couple of times as an adult, and wondered what I saw in it.

I do want to add to my overrated list:
Entourage
Lost
DWTS
American Idol

When I was little my grandparents made me watch Hee Haw and Lawrence Welk. Man I hated those shows

Now that they are gone I'd watch a marathon of both to give them just one hug

Hit like and share if you miss your grandparents too!

Seinfeld
Friends

Watched about a combined 15 minutes of Friends. Not for me.
I like Friends, can't stand Seinfeld.

Frasier is another one that is hard to stomach. I thought the Frasier Crane character worked well on Cheers, but it's too much snootiness for his own show
