Just get ready for anything. They like to run and throw. Spread, pistol,wildcat. have multiple qbs that are efficient. Receivers include half the team. 21,2,82,22,3,6,8,10,Running backs 8,2,6,10 and 12 Kicker is very good and def is very stingy.. Expect a very good game.
Ask Whitesville what to expect. Bears could have scored again but started taking a knee with 2 minutes left in the game and ran out the clock. I don't think Whitesville had but 3 positions the whole 2nd half . Someone correct me if I missed one. Of coarse I am not saying next week will be anything like this week. Two very good teams going against each other next Friday . Both need respect !
Bears have a balanced O....D has been tough in playoffs as well as regular season...looking forward to the trip...never been to Mt Gilead

West Montgomery makes its 5th 1-AA West Region Final in the past 10 seasons (2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2016). Consistent success but that state title has been elusive so far. Coach E will get the boys ready and hopefully focused on their goal. One game at a time...

We have been thinking about this game for a little while. It could be a toss up. I know a lot of People where predicting Mt. Airy to win the West. Probably good that West Montgomery had a tough game last week. Both Teams are on a Mission. Bring Home the title Western Champs
West needs to regroup and get back to the basics. The second half against Swain was the best football they've played in the playoffs. The rest has been suspect. Coaching is great but it seems something isn't clicking. Injuries are affecting this team more than the fans realize I believe. Mt. Airy is a class program with class fans. Many have come to Warrior Stadium after their seasons have ended and watched the games with us. Good people. Don't expect anything other than a barn burner for the West Region Championship. Best of luck to both teams. Here's to an injury free and for God's sake a game that the officials don't make about themselves and throwing flags every time a team starts taking control of the game.
Well spoken BDHarris ! ! There's some great match ups in 1A/1AA this week. preying for a good game with no injuries as both team need to be healthy ,as one will represent the west next week and need to be healthy got the biggest game of the year ! !
from what I'm hearing warm clothing will be a must...highs in 40's down to 20's
I'm sure the Warriors will practice harder this week after that scare last week. Hopefully they take this serious! Nothing is guaranteed from here on out! We have to shut down the stupid penalties and clean up some blocks! After that we have what we have! Good Luck to the Warriors! Finish the Job!
Sway go away!!! You obviously don't care for anyone from the West, except Albemarle. They had their run. Give your hatred towards someone else. Mt. Airy and West will play as hard as possible for sure. Also, Tarboro and WRH will. They all are trying to be State Champs. And for already giving it to the East is ridiculous. The game still has to be played regardless. Go Warriors!!!
I think will be another battle for WM I have a hard time going against that defense and explosive offense. I think WM pulls this out in a tight game.
I am kind off hoping WM somehow finds a way to win this game which I doubt because I respect Mt Airy too much as a program to see what is gonna happen against the winner of WRH vs Tarboro game. As embarrassing as it was for West Montgomery a couple of years ago in the title game when James Kenan b-slapped them running only one play (double wing super power) it is gonna be 10 times worse this year because both Tarboro and WRH are as loaded if not more so than they have ever been. The East has this title this season regardless of what happens Friday. I don't know. Maybe Mt Airy would give a better defensive effort against those teams and make a least a competitive game. Really go back and look at video from that title game with WM vs James Kenan. JK ran ONE freakin play and got like a gaziilion yards. WM's D was on roller skates moving backwards for 4 quarters. It will be a lot worse this year if WM is in that game against either WHR or Tarboro.
Since for the most part I know a lot of East Montgomery and West Montgomery fans are in here talking or not here is something that I know will interest a lot of you. The school system's Facebook page is holding their comments open on a post asking for the Central High School's new name, colors, and mascot. So I suggest you all get over there and comment what you want for each, if not just like someone who has already posted the same. If anyone is interested in what the mainly talked about names and mascots are without looking most people are wanting Central Montgomery or Uwharrie Mountain High School. For the colors some people are suggesting keep the blue and red and be the the Patriots but that just seems kind of off since Pinecrest is right down the road and they are the Patriots. Mascots suggestions seems heavily in favor of either War Eagles or Mountaineers/Miners/Pioneers. And for the most part people suggesting the Mountaineers and Miners thing want gold and black as the colors. Where as the War Eagles they want Red/Blue color combo.
I see your dislike toward West Montgomery runs deep. The teams from the East are incredible and they have been for a number of years. As far as any team giving a better defensive performance against the JK team well, where was it against West Montgomery when they won the West? Not sure what team you pull for and really don't care. West is focused on Mt. Airy this week. After Friday night they'll either be playing next Friday or they won't. Either way what has been established as one of the top three 1AA programs in the West won't be undone by one game. If you want to make disparaging remarks about a team losing a State Championship game then you are one sad individual. ONE team wins in each classification every season. Saying you'd rather see a team not make the State Championship game than get beat is pathetic.
back to the topic.... The Mt. Airy Bears will show up. The Bears are a very skilled team at a lot of positions that had one set back, but redeemed themselves just fine in the rematch. West Montgomery has a special team and a talented group as well. This should be a fine match-up of the two best teams in the West to represent the West at the NCHSAA 1AA State Championship.
As for the history, Mt.Airy and West Montgomery have faced each other only once and that was in the 2nd round of the State playoffs in 2012 with MA winning 52-14.

West Montgomery has always had good athletes, they just didn't quite have the right coach. But now those boys are playing great and have been for the past 8 years.

Nope. Albemarle beat us 34-23 in round 3 in 2007. We should have won, but we lost Michael Dobson to a leg injury during the game. I was there.
Sway , have you seen the Bears play this year or seen them on tape? Just wondering , predicting a blowout in a western regional final is a bold prediction, no disrespect just curious?
No I haven't... I'll check out some video on them.
Albemarle blanked WM 31-0 in the 4th round back in 2009 in route to a 4th State title in a 10 year span.. So a blowout is feasible in the 4th round.
I guess we don`t have to go to the game now being you already know who is going to win the game. How about going on and letting us know who is gonna be the east champion., that way they can go on and order their rings.
I'm guessing you'll be coming through Troy unless you take some back roads to Wadeville. Troy has a few options outside of the Bojangles! Sir Pizza, Hometown BBQ and Better Burger are the ones I'd recommend. If I were you I'd wait until I get to the game and eat there. Food is amazing and you can make a hell of a meal from several of the selections and also get to meet lots of good Warrior fans.
As far as the comments that have been made about the Warriors' winning or blowing out Mt. Airy let me make sure that every one on here knows two things:
1 - Sway is an Albemarle fan and I won't get into how many names he deserves to be called. Ignore him. His own fan base does.
2 - Not sure who hammer70 is but....well....I'll leave that alone. He's not a West Montgomery fan. He's pulling for West to win in the hopes that they lose big in the final. His post reeked of jealousy and of someone who is so envious of West Montgomery's success he wishes them ill will. I for one don't mind losing in the State Championship Game. I'd rather win, but only ONE team can in 1AA. You can't win if you're not in the game.
Every West Montgomery fan, booster and person associated with the team knows that Mt. Airy should be favored in the game. I for one believe it will be close and the outcome most likely decided in the last quarter. On the other hand, if West Montgomery plays like they did against "the other team" and doesn't hold the lines Mt. Airy could win handily. Hopefully the game will be called a hell of a lot more even than it was against "the other team." Y'all will have plenty of "the other team's" fans on that side. They normally come over just to pull against West Montgomery on a regular basis in the playoffs because their Friday nights are normally football free shortly after the regular season.
In the end, West Montgomery is playing for the West Regional Title for the 5th time in 10 years. After a few years of horrible coaching hires, disarray in the front office the ship was righted and West Montgomery is set of years to come with a great principal and a hell of a coaching staff. With a only a handful of seniors and more underclassmen, including freshmen, playing this year than I've ever seen West looks great moving forward. Win or lose this team has made up for last years debacle against Walkertown. Plus sending "the other team" back across the river twice in one season in games that could have been statement wins for their program will be etched in the history books forever. Aside from that, there are still goals to be accomplished. At least one game to play. Best of luck to the Granite Bears and to the Warriors. Here's to a injury and penalty free game. Look forward to seeing the fans from Mt. Airy and watching what should be one hell of a good game. Just a heads up Mt. Airy fans, it gets pretty damn cold at Warrior Stadium. We won't have the wind the mountains do but its cold, damp and the air settles right on top of the stadium. Dress warm.
