I figured I would give our conference a thread to discuss happenings as we move into crunch time. We’ve got a few Pisgah and Brevard guys, THS91 made an appearance and who knows maybe a Franklin poster or two along with a Mills River representative may pop in. We’ll see where it goes.

On that note, it sounds like East Henderson will have a JV squad for Pisgah to play come next week, so that’s good news.

I think I’m the only one here. We got too many fair weather fans imo.

This is the best Brevard offense I’ve ever seen and they have the best chance to win a ship barring injury since Manny Deshauteers senior season.

Seniors that have experience in big games and talented underclass men.
yeah this is probably the most explosive offense Brevard has ever had and the most composed team for Brevard ive seen since that 05 group that lost to lincolnton in the semis.

I meant to post this on this thread and unintentionally highjacked the Brevard/WH thread with my reply.

This Brevard team definitely has some of the highlevel talent that was seen in those late 90s-early 2000 Brevard teams. I don’t think they’re as physically dominant as last year’s group.

Pisgah matches up to scheme better with the group this year than the one last year. We’ll see how it shakes out.

You mention the Manny Deshateur years and those were the worst of the split conference years. It’s hard to believe but if playoffs were like they were in those days, the loser of the Brevard-
Pisgah game wouldn’t make the playoffs because at the time the two of us were the only 2A teams in the conference, so only the one with the best conference record got to advance, even if the other team was 2nd overall in conference.
We went to the house with a 8-2, 5-1 conference record and Brevard went to the playoffs 10-0, 6-0 in conference.
Playoffs are wee bit different now with who all gets in.

Shelby beat them in Brevard that year.
Brevard knocked us out of the playoffs in 77 ,That was the only game we lost.

Oh yeah no doubt he was he still was in those alumni games i played in with him. Yeah that 05-06 group was a lot of fun to watch the Shelby game that year was a classic as well
I was a senior at Maiden that 05 year. Brevard was the coldest game I've ever played in. That team definitely had no quit in them. Those two running backs were hard to handle and y'all had a skinny super quick DE that gave us trouble too.

Your current coach played for Pisgah when Manney played
Yep, Luke probably remembers well when Manny intercepted the ball at Pisgah. He jumped the route on the 1 as we were going into score right before halftime and would have tied the game up. Took it to the house 99ish yards and Brevard went in up by two scores. Completely turned the game. That would have been the 97 game.

I’m sure Coleman and Manny have had several good yesteryear conversations in the last few years.

Yeah my brother was on that 05 Brevard team. They was a lot of fun to watch. And that game with Maiden was cold and a very close game

Man what happened to East? They were always good under Chappell, they're not even a shell of that anymore. It just seems like they don't have level of athlete in the school anymore.

They don’t have much talent. I think the coaching is fine. What would have been their best player is at Christ School this year but that’s just one guy.

East used to field a competitive program year in and year out. Not world beaters but competitive. The Chappell years were definitely their high point which is when you are talking about. They put several guys in college during those years. Michael Angram was an undersized RB that could take it to the house and they had some good receivers.

The Gosnell kid that played qb at Hendersonville and went to South Florida was an East kid that Sosebee lured away. I think that’s the stage the coach is in now trying to retain his own even it’s just 1 or 2 guys to build off of. They’ve had several of their top kids wind up at Christ School the last few years. Retaining your own is becoming harder and harder though when you’ve been a losing program for a while.

A few years back they had less than 20 on the varsity when we played and that’s a school of 1000 students.

East hasn't won a conference game since 2017. 47 conference losses in a row.
Yes, they’ve won two in the past decade. We were their last. The bad thing is most of the losses are usually absolute blowouts especially conference.

Rosman, Madison, North Buncombe, Owen are the non-conference schools they should try to keep on their schedule the next few years to attempt to get momentum. Several of the teams I mentioned have been improving but still East’s best shots at wins.

I didn't go to the Brevard vs east game but I went last night against west and learned that Brevard only played the starters vs east for about 4-5 drives then the jv played against east the rest of the game

East was originally on our schedule but they backed out

And to be fair, I’d fully expect you all to beat them by multiple scores if you played. Obviously, Rosman and Madison both thumped them pretty good this year.

I remember years ago when Erwin had one of the longest losing streaks in the nation. It’s rough when programs get that bad off.

I agree. The revolving door and poor quality of coaching has been very harmful to the program. I think we have the right man now. It actually reminds me a lot of Brevard when Essenberg left. Y’all have it rolling now. Your last 2 coaches have been super good. Back to Brevard of old. Brevard had to change as a community as well with the industry leaving which is again very similar to Owen. Hopefully we get to where Brevard is. It’s possible

The QB on that team was quick!! Allan Lane for Maiden caught what I thought was the game winning touchdown pass in the corner of the endzone, but Brevard never panicked and went right down field in that Maiden game!! Tommy Henry was inches away from sacking Brevard's QB but somehow, someway he got away got the 1st down and Brevard went on to score afterwards and win 21-18. What a great game, that Brevard team and the 1996 team that upset Shelby with Don Don Deshauters was one of the great Brevard teams I remember!!

Hows Chappell doing down in SC? I know you miss him Dale but Ricky seems to be doing alright. I don't think we'll end up like East and speaking of East its going to be the first game I'll be able to see in person this year. I like our chances. (no jinx!)

If there is any community or school I want to see do well it's Owen especially after all the communities of Black Mountain and Swannanoa have been thru in the last year. I am definitely pulling for Faircloth to get things turned around at Owen and agreed he's on the right track!!

Don’t be surprised if Brett Chappell is the new HC at West Henderson next year as Coach Whit is retiring.
I’d definitely say it could be his if he wanted it. He’s pretty much played .500 ball at Chesnee but I have no idea if that’s good, bad, or normal for that school.
SC money is often(maybe always?) better than NC so that’ll be a factor.

I don't see Brett ever coming back to N.C and I don't blame him.

The bigger question will be who takes the Brevard job if/when Luke goes back to Georgia in a few years. I definitely see that possibility.
