MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (August 22, 2017) – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team continues to rank No. 1 in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women’s National Poll.


The Mountaineers (1-0) received 16 first-place votes for 745 points. WVU sits atop the poll alongside Stanford (2-0), who also owns 745 points with nine first-place votes.


South Carolina (2-0) earned one first-place vote and ranks No. 3, while North Carolina (1-0) received two first-place votes and ranks No. 4. USC (1-0) sits at No. 5.


Florida State (2-0) and UCLA (2-0) each received one first-place vote and rank No. 6 and No. 7, respectively. Florida (2-0) sits at No. 8, and Penn State (2-0) received the final first-place vote and follows at No. 9. Virginia (1-0), the Mountaineers’ next opponent, rounds out the top 10.


The Mountaineers also rank No. 2 in this week’s Soccer America Women’s College 25 Rankings and No. 3 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Women’s Division I Top 25 National Rankings. Stanford and Penn State rank No. 1 in the polls, respectively.


The Mountaineers open their 2017 home season against the Cavaliers on Thursday, Aug. 24, at 7 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. It’s Dollar Night, and all tickets, popcorn, small sodas, nachos, mini pepperoni rolls and candy bars will be available for $1 each. Additionally, it’s Poster Night, and all fans in attendance will receive a free Mountaineer schedule poster.
