MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (August 29, 2017) – Coming off a 2-0 weekend in California to start the season, the West Virginia University men’s soccer team enters the national rankings at No. 19 in today’s United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men’s National Poll.
The Mountaineers (2-0) opened the 2017 season with a 1-0 win at Cal on Friday before a 2-0 win at Santa Clara on Sunday.
Along with the No. 19 national ranking, WVU is ranked No. 1 in the Great Lakes regional ranking.
West Virginia was nationally ranked for six consecutive weeks last season, coming in as high as No. 15.
In the Week 1 poll, Stanford is ranked No. 1, receiving 23 of 24 first-place votes. Wake Forest is No. 2, followed by North Carolina, Denver and Clemson. Future WVU opponents Michigan State (No. 13) and Akron (24) also are in the top 25, while Western Michigan and George Mason are receiving votes.
The Mountaineers are also receiving votes in this week’s College Soccer News poll.
