MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (October 25, 2017) – The West Virginia University rifle team returns to No. 1 in this week’s College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) Poll.


This week’s rankings are based on a team’s last score shot.


The Mountaineers (4-0, 3-0 GARC) earned a 4739-4647 win over Ole Miss on Oct. 21 in Morgantown. WVU shot an NCAA record for the second time this season with its air rifle score of 2392. The Mountaineers’ aggregate score was a season high, as well as their smallbore score of 2347.


TCU ranks No. 2 this week, followed by Kentucky at No. 3. Murray State and Alaska-Fairbanks rank No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.


Ohio State ranks No. 6, Air Force ranks No. 7 and Nevada ranks No. 8. Checking in at No. 9 is NC State, and Ole Miss is No. 10.


The Mountaineers will compete again next weekend with two matches at the WVU Rifle Range. WVU will face the Horned Frogs at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4. On Sunday, the Mountaineers will compete against Army West Point beginning at 8 a.m. The WVU Rifle Range is located in the Shell Building behind the WVU Coliseum, and admission to the event is free.
