Mountaineers Solid at ISSF Munich World Cup


MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (June 2, 2015) – Several shooters from the 2015 NCAA Champion West Virginia University rifle team earned solid results at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Munich Rifle and Pistol World Cup, which concluded after five days of competition at the 1972 Olympic Shooting Range in Hochbruckle, Germany, on June 1.


Two returning student-athletes, as well as an incoming Mountaineer, competed in more than one event.


Rising redshirt-senior Meelis Kiisk (Estonia) shot 1158 and finished 32nd in the second elimination relay, 57th overall, in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions on May 31. Prior that finish, he shot 618.5 in the men’s 10m air rifle second qualification relay and placed 44th on May 28, and 617.3 in the men’s 50m rifle prone first elimination relay on May 29 and finished 43rd.


Rising senior Michael Bamsey (Great Britain) earned his best finish in the men’s 10m air rifle, shooting 618.5 in the first qualification relay and placing 33rd overall. He followed that result with a 38th place, 1154 showing in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions.


Incoming freshman Virginia Thrasher (United States) shot two MQS matches, tallying 412.0 in the women’s 10m air rifle on May 28 and 575 in the women’s rifle 3 positions on May 30.


Recent graduate Ziva Dvorsak (Slovenia) placed 17th in the women’s 10m air rifle second qualification relay on May 28 with a 415.7 mark. She also shot 569 in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions second elimination relay on May 30.


Classmates Maren Prediger (Germany) and Thomas Kyanko (United States) each shot one MQS match. Prediger tallied 413.9 in the women’s 10m air rifle, while Kyanko tallied 622.0 in the men’s 10m air rifle, the fifth-best MQS total.


Additionally, graduate assistant Dan Hermsmeier (United States) shot 1158 in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions MQS match.


Of note, former Mountaineer NCAA Champion Nicco Campriani (Italy) finished seventh in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions final on June 1 with a 403.9 score. He entered the final in third place, shooting 1178 in the qualification relay.


The next ISSF World Cup will be held in Gabala, Azerbaijan, Aug. 6-16. It is the season’s seventh and last World Cup stage.
