To me, Gremlins 2 just gets better and better as time goes on. Gremlins was the first movie that I ever saw at a drive-in (I was 7 and remember it well), and I remember flipping out when I first saw the trailer for 2.

Politically incorrect take here, but I would still say it was a great cinematic masterpiece in its day and historically significant (although no idea why any woman would prefer Ashley Wilkes over Rhett Butler)

We gotta be a bit more creative. Just naming some of the most widely considered greatest films ever made isn’t fun.

Dazed and Confused - timeless soundtrack and ultimate hangout movie. Everyone can relate to it.
Tremors - simple yet a blast. Actual special effects used which still look incredible.
The Thing and They Live - one has gore, isolation, and tension that are hard to beat while the other speaks on consumerism and has a badass street fight that’s entertained generations.
Starship Troopers - too smart for its time, many didn’t understand its satirical nature and completely disregarded it as schlock. It showed a perversion of the military state and the fact that we invaded other planets and not the other way around went over people’s heads.

Big Trouble in Little China. It's still campy and cheap looking but the comedy and Kurt Russel's and Kim Catrell's acting always make me watch it if it's on. If I catch one second of that movie I have to watch the whole thing..

That’s why I called Flash Gordon. Stellar cast, great soundtrack, fantastic story line, wall to wall excitement, just about every scene in that movie is memorable. In 400 years humanoid hybrids will still love that movie. Ming top 5 all time villain.

I read the book years ago, prior to the movie. The book was really good, as is the movie.

now that you mention a Civil Action, it reminds me of Robert Duvall (incredible in that movie). So, let me add

Apocalypse Now
Phenomenon
The Great Santini

and some Gene Hackman movies

Enemy of the State
Crimson Tide
Unforgiven
Mississippi Burning

and

The Book of Eli (a movie I love to watch)

IIRC, the "winning" plaintiffs firm went bankrupt due to that case, was a complete debacle from their perspective
