Guido,

I've watched him throw all spring and summer so far, he cannot throw the 12 yd out from the far hash to save his life let alone the 16, again this is a mans throw and separates the men from the boys. We will see if he develops to that next level as a passer, he is certainly a good HS QB but he is not yet a D1 caliber kid.

As for winning awards at 7v7...I could care less. You need to realize that while its fun and helps develop schemes, timing, and reads, it means little else to football ability with pads on or the college coaches.

Agree with you that he shouldn't have the world of expectations heaped on him as he's just finished his freshman year, doesn't know the offense whatsoever, and hasn't even won the soph job let alone varsity job (nor has he even been ruled eligible by transfer). Also totally agree on the size, very skinny 15-year old to be taking CCL-type hits regularly in a veer offense.

Couldn't disagree more on throwing the out at 8, 12, 16 yards or whatever, though. Not sure when you watched him last, but competed nationally in 7-on-7's and out-duelled some of the top-rated young QBs in the country. He throws a high varsity level ball, but still in a small frame.

Look for him in '17 and '18; he's not a savior in '16 though.

How does the Nazareth transfer from St. Patrick look?

RRH,

He looks good, we left the area and are back in PA so I don't get to see him live, but still have access to HUDL which is great cause I get the chance to see the boys developing for the season. I may be wrong but I think you could see something a lot like 2014 with two very good QBs splitting time to give different package looks during the games. What I'm confident of is the coaches abilities to extract everything they can from each boy for everyone to achieve their best. They will contend all season long through the ESCC and will win early with Defense while the offense develops it new group of young guns. Can they triple up? It won't be easy but certainly isn't impossible.

Bronco,

I wasn't referring to the non conference but rather the early ESCC schedule. I can see why that might not be clear, good luck this season perhaps the Naz/Montini game will happen this year.

Naz will win early because they have a weak non-conference schedule.

Mr Dutton,

Good luck with the transfer. He throws a decent ball, you called him a great passer and said he was earning lauds while competing against the best QBs in the country which would intimate that you thought he was D1 ready. Essentially you put him with the like of Hunter who could throw the 16 yard out from the far hash as a rising sophomore. I wish the kid good luck in the future, it's a tough position to play and I hope he's successful.

A) You started this out saying he couldn't throw an 8-yard out. Now you've backtracked to 12 yards and from the opposite hash. That's some serious backpeddling my friend. DB coach?
;-) . Most college coaches would love a QB who can throw a bullet 12-yard out from the opposite hash, let alone in high school.
B) Who said he's a Dvision 1 QB at this point? Nobody in this thread.
C) I watched an entire Hudl highlight reel of your son's starting QB this past year. Not one featured a 12-yard out from the opposite hash. And he's not even remotely heading to a Division 1 college at QB. Still lead them to a pretty successful season as a starting QB though, didn't he?
D) Be careful challenging the manhood of a 15-year old kid. Crossing a line for a high school sport, imho. These are still just kids, and this is still just a game.

Hey Guido,

News flash Hunter is committed to Clemson and holds over 30 D1 offers. I might know a little more about the QB position than you think, I'm not a casual observer nor am I an overpaid over hyping Chicagoland private QB Coach looking to extract cash from parents pocketbooks with inflated claims about their kids potential. I don't want to damage the kids reputation in fact want to see the young man successful in life and on the field. I am also not lauding any accomplishments of kids at Naz specifically even though many could or perhaps should be. Good luck at MC!

I'm not "Mr. Dutton" lol, and I never called him a "great passer", and never "intimated" he was "D1 ready". You are just totally and completely all over the place in this thread, as many, so I chose to call you out before you did more damage to a kid's reputation . You show an obvious bias in underestimating this kid's talents while overstating Hunter's as a "rising sophomore". How do you know this kid isn't a "rising sophomore" and even if you aren't how were you so wrong in estimating where that "rising sophomore" would end up as a quarterback. You seem awfully dismissive of other team's QB accomplishments and free to laud your own teams individual accomplishments while ignoring their limitations.

It's just funny you criticize this kid's arm for not being "D1 ready" but bend over backwards to backup Hunter's, even though he wasn't offered by a D1 or even D2 school. The fact is you simply did not "watch him (the MC kid) all spring or summer", you were not there as you claim when he clearly showed numerous examples of throwing long out passes. I followed the team all off-season with other parents and have every play on tape, there are tons of examples of great long "out" patterns. I'd post them, but the fact is that's all that those uneducated about the QB position consider. The QB position is extremely complicated, but i've learned that those who boil it down to "what' his arm strength on a 15-yard out" really don't understand it to any degree. See Ryan Leaf vs. Peyton Manning. But if you really want to question it, I'm happy to dig some video up on his behalf.

The fact is that he was always a good runner, but even when that skill was taken away in the 7-on-7 format he still earned MVP status at multiple camps over similar kids with SEC offers. I'll take that over what some internet poster with an obvious bias posts 10 times out of 10. No offense, have an enjoyable season.

NNFan my old stomping ground as well. Eastern part of the state. If your familiar with the sea District 3, Lancaster Lebanon League, Wilson High School West Lawn. Let me know where you were from. Regarding PJJP, I try but he's as stubborn as I am.

Did you own a car when you lived there, or just a horse and buggy? LOL. I was northeast of you... lived in Willow Grove (north of Philly). Grandmother, aunt and uncle in Warminster. Cousins in Bucks County. Spent loads of time in Ocean City, NJ. Met the girl of my dreams there at age 19, she was from Red Lion, PA. Hoagies, scrapple, cheese steaks, sticky buns, soft pretzels.

Mmmmm Grilled Stickies even better! How did you end up in Naperville? More a fan of the Maryland shore myself, Red Lion now that's funny!

Guido,

No issue with Greg or Jon first off, others in the area I have a different opinion of. Secondly, good luck to JJ I hope he has a great career. Finally I never said he wasn't good but he is not D1 ready today and I'll leave it at that. What I was pointing out with Hunter is he was ready very early and in the early point of this exchange that was being implied if not outright said. Yes my sons played at Naz and while I love the recently graduated QB he was not ever going to play QB in college.

Again to the young man if he's reading...good luck! The QB position is the most demanding, frustrating, and rewarding position on the field. I wish you good luck at achieving your dreams!

Perhaps I'm confused. I thought your son played for Naz, and a quick google search showed their QB with some minor lower division baseball offers. Not that there's anything wrong with that whatsoever, but the Hunter I'm assuming you are referring to plays in Indiana. So maybe something's way over my head on this thread.

Anyway, no ill will intended. If you look back at my original response, I actually agreed with 90% of what you said. I just took exception with the insinuation that he lacked legitimate QB arm strength at this level. I know him well and simply know that couldn't be further from the truth, and know for a fact that he personally saw that comment and took exception.

I don't doubt for a fact that you know a thing or two about the QB position. But keep in mind that it's still just your opinion, and there are many on this board (including us) who also know a lot, perhaps more. JJ's uncle was a Division II all-American college QB who damn near made the NFL, and one of the closest family friends was an NFL QB for 5 or 6 years.

I'm also not sure what you are insinuating about a "private QB coach looking to extract cash from parents pocketbooks". Are you saying that's the situation with this young man's QB coach, that he is just "whoring" for cash and doesn't care about the kids he trains? Is it just Greg Holcomb you question, or any college athlete who trains privately at whatever position or whatever personal trainer? That seems like an awfully broad generalization since probably most of the kids on these higher level teams do it, especially when it's an accusation about a guy like Greg Holcomb, who is about as "salt of the Earth" as you can get?

Anyway, no hard feelings. Don't come on these boards to argue. Like I said, I agreed with your comments on having to learn an entirely new offense, gain size, etc which are extremely important. Just don't agree with your comments on arm strength, and I know for a fact that the coaches at both his previous high school and new high school completely disagree with that comment.

I have a ton of video of his 8th and 9th grade seasons that I think refute this, and there's tons of video available on youtube and hudl anyone can access on there own, but my experience on these boards is that you don't change anyone's opinion on these boards so it's a waste to try. With that said, here's a single link to one of these 15-yd outs that he apparently struggles with against future college defensive backs against Florida.

There may be kids who can throw better, and may be kids who can run better, but few who can do both as well. I think he'll be fine.

Have a great night, and a great season.
