I was kind of surprised it was that high for Kansas; that's decent elevation.

Kansas gradually increases in elevation from low plains to high plains as one goes from east to west.
Same with Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and South Dakota & North Dakota (although the latter two end up in mountains, not high plains).
Dave Barry wrote a piece for the Miami Herald in which he and a visiting sherpa climbed the highest point they could find in the Miami area.
It was a trash dump.

Keep in mind...you're moving closer to the Rocky mountains...same for the other flat plains states. Sorry, I'm an Alien Geographer so I toss out that kind of stuff from time to time.
