All kidding aside. It does seem like Murphy has postponed more than any smc team.

I would love to see Murphy with a new field like smokey mountains. That's the problem with having 3 high school's in the county. I couldn't imagine what the cost would be to install a new turf field at both Murphy and Andrews.

I love football but I had rather see A/C in our gyms. I always enjoyed playing a game or two in the mud in football. Lol We will see consolidation before we see turf or A/C

Lord I hope you're not there 5 or 6 more seasons. Big Stump stadium is terrible for visitors. Not enough seats.

Maybe pretty soon. I think they are unveiling their possible plans in like 2 weeks.

Consolidation in Cherokee County? That will likely be the end of Murphy as a perennial power. Smoky Mountain has never come within miles of being the program Sylva-Webster was before that consolidation.

Honestly depending on how they consolidate it could just end up being a 1AA school. If they only consolidated Andrews and Murphy and left Hiawassee Dam alone how big would it really be?

I've spent limited time in Cherokee County, so forgive my ignorance, but I was under the impression that it would be easier to consolidate Hiwassee Dam and Murphy, and maybe give Andrews some of Murphy's easternmost kids. This would create a West Cherokee and East Cherokee County.

In any case, your most recent ADMs for the three schools are:
Murphy - 495
Andrews - 248
Hiwassee Dam - 208

Murphy and Hiwassee Dam would be a small 2A school, about the size of Mountain Heritage. All three together would be a large 2A school, about the size of Franklin.

From what I understand, an architect will be presenting 5 to 7 scenarios for the future of Cherokee County Schools, then the School Board is supposed to weigh the pros and cons. So could be consolidation involved, could stay exactly the same as it is now. Personally, my money would be on some consolidation at the elementary level but not a consolidated county high school.

I would agree with that, I think there will be more consolidation on the elementary and K thru 8 front. The closing of Marble Elementary was a start, but there are still too many elementary and K thru 8 schools in the county, given the population.

From a fiscal standpoint, Martins Creek (K thru 8) and Peachtree Elementary should probably close and I wouldn't be surprised if those two schools were the sacrificial lambs (so to speak) in this next phase of potential consolidation. The Peachtree kids are all close enough to Murphy Elementary for it to be a non issue. The Martins Creek kids are all close enough to either Ranger or Murphy Elementary and Middle for it to be a non issue for them as well. Of course if you added Peachtree and Martins Creek kids to those schools, there would have to be expansion at Ranger and Murphy to accommodate them. But over the long haul it would definitely save the county money, despite the cost to upgrade those facilities.

I think Hiwassee Dam Elementary/Middle will be spared in consolidation but only because Hiwassee Dam is home to the high school in the far western end of the county and their schools are all on the same complex. That fact is also the only reason a Hiwassee Dam Elementary/Middle makes any sense moving forward. I frame it that way because if school plans were being drawn up now based on population centers and efficiency, it would be Ranger (not Hiwassee Dam) as the location of the high school on that end of the county. The kids zoned to Hiwassee Dam Elementary/Middle would have a minimal commute to Ranger.

I think if you were to look at Cherokee County schools without any sort of community or alma mater bias, the best setup in my opinion would probably be a two high school, two middle school, three elementary school system. The construction of a western high school and middle school in the Ranger area and the construction of an eastern high school and middle school around the Tomatla area. The three elementary schools would be located in Ranger, Murphy and Andrews (using the elementary schools currently in place in those areas, with expansion as necessary).

Robbinsville has two schools in the county. RHS/RMS combo.
And RES.

Murphy has 3 or 4 elementary. Wast it two years ago that the enrollment was
Robbinsville 360
Murphy 430.

Sad day if all three of those schools combine. That is what makes the smc so special not much change, community based schools and long histories

I don't think Peachtree makes much sense now that they no longer have to take the river road to Murphy, and HDHS having two feeder elementary schools is unnecessary. If Cherokee County Schools were starting from scratch, I think it would make sense to have elementary schools in Andrews, Murphy, and the western end of the county, with middle and high schools in Marble/Tomotla and somewhere around the flea market. But there are way too many ties and way too much history to go to that now. But I think most people will realize that 6 elementary schools is a lot of overhead for a county of 30,000.

some want to gut and close murphy high and split the kids between HD and Andrews....if that plan is proposed I predict thermonuclear war in this county.....but it would clear up Friday nights for a lot of people as they and me will never return to another high school sporting event in this county........
