In watching the Oklahoma State Iowa State match the skinny guys give up a lot of muscle mass, but they out wrestle the Iowa State guys big time. Coaching is showing big time. Not only in technique but the coaches have built a mindset that is winning! There is no doubt tha coaching and coaching staff creates attitude and culture. It’s time to find some!

Not only does technique and mindset generally trump muscle, in my opinion, it provides a more exciting product. Even in high school, I was always more impressed with our slick wrestlers than our brute force, muscle guys. Of course, having both is ideal.

Funny how Iowa State gets dominated by Oklahoma State and wrestles out of their mind when competing with Iowa. The mind can be persuaded to out perform its physical abilities. Coaching is key. Everyone except the head coach should be let go immediately

Ben Askren, Keegan O’toole, Kyle Dake, Yianni Diakomahalis are all good mat wrestling styles with contemporary relevance or following. It’s time to shake things up big time!

The absolute brilliance of coach Gable, he took Iowa talent from little towns like Lisbon, Sheldon Clinton, et al and turned them into wrestling machines. He believed in his methods of training and expected his kids to be champions and along the way some of them began to believe in his system. We must realize a coach like Gable is a once in several generations find. I just hope we can find another coach like him.

Even their unranked guys showed up against Elam & Bastida.

Modern wrestling technique training, you aren't getting much better than freaking David Taylor.
He knows the Carl secret sauce too.

I might be wrong but believe all but one of Cowboys won by getting one takedown in the first half. Good defensively but not really explosive except Jaxon, he is explosive.
Jax is on another level...and he should still be in HS.
Vega and Robideu are not at his level but they have shown to be quite explosive over the course of this year. Today they both wrestled more calculated matches against 5th or 6th year wrestlers.

How Taylor has a group of very young wrestlers competing is impressive. They have reason to be excited in Stillwater. Also for the record I don't want any of the hawkclone coaches as considerations for here.

Plus I'm glad everyone has made my point for me.

We always say coaching coaching coaching i guess everyone should go to ok state look what coach Taylor has done to this Jax Forest kid in a month. He's a national champion contender in 4 duals and a open. The skill set that these elite college coaches can coach and have there kids master in such a short short time.

AMAZING

Jax has been in Stillwater more than any other town the last year. He's been training with DT longer than a month. Jax skill set has been elite for awhile now DT didn't teach him that in a month 🤷

Gable was the first to really use and perfect the style to outwork people and that is what he did. Now everyone works about as hard, so something more is needed. TnT need to accept that and evolve or get left further behind.

As a side note, the team score was pretty lopsided, but OSU won at least 3 matches with a takedown with less than 15 seconds on the clock in the 3rd period. It was a pretty close meet. Home mat advantage may have been the difference.

Also, Dresser's interview after the match was pretty classy.

Agreed, he sure turned Valencia around though in a year. The guy can flat out coach. Has more world hardware than the Brands combined. Already building his senior freestyle club.

He's also his size and they roll together. Zo deserves a ton of credit for Jax development

They wrestled Iowa in Hilton, and the Pokes in Stillwater. That's supposed to help, unless you lose at Carver to a mediocre Gopher team, then not so much apparently.

@MSU158 : Didn't you say it would be a "LONG" time before Okie was a tier above everyone but Penn State? I don't know, brother...I think they're getting there much sooner than you expected. And this is without the other four of the top 11 wrestlers (Ross, Raney's, and Zinkin) coming in the class of 26. And who else is going to transfer there? Next year I see PSU, tOSU and Okie State, and after that all PSU and Okie until someone does something significant to move the needle. We need to be that someone! Not trying to engage, just pcking a bit since they beat ISU rather handily. Can't wait to see how they look at Natty's, especially Jax, Robideau, Vega, and Lockett. Don't see Locket beating Mikey again but it will be interesting to see how the young guns perform on the big stage.

This isn’t a productive argument. He reclassified and enrolled early, that’s the point. Jeez
I mean sure, but when people keep saying "he should be in highschool" it's a fairly inaccurate thing to point out. He is older than Marcus Blaze. He's an amazing talent regardless and fun as hell to watch.

Well, to be fair, Taylor has been coaching him for more than a month.
