Videos did kill or at least hurt music IMO. Songs became as much about the video and what the band/singer looked like than the music. To me the golden era of music was the 1970's before video networks and when it was more about the music.

Christopher Cross syndrome.

Back then, it seemed like Sailing played non-stop... then they saw what CC looked like, and that was that. His "look" did not fit into the video era.
