rville20--they would be playing for the middle school---I think there was around 11 going to play prior to school starting thus I thought if they waited till school started they might pick up a few kids. Anyway you look at it numbers were bad.
Most of your schools that have numbers would like for the 7th graders to play down as they will get more playing time there than on middle school team--sometimes even better coaching---I see both sides and have heard good opinions on both---although for NS feeder program it can be a killer some times

Week 4 JV Slate:

Surry Central 15 at East Surry 28
Eden Morehead 6 at Mount Airy 42
Starmount 12 at Forbush 14
South Stokes 0 at Alleghany 8 (EARLY SCORE, not Verified yet)
North Stokes 22 at North Wilkes 6
Walkertown at East Wilkes (NO SCORE)
Atkins 6 at Trinity 0
Carver 14 at East Forsyth 49

Ashe County, Elkin, North Surry, and West Wilkes are off.

Another packed JV slate here in week 4.

In MVAC play the game with the most on the line is up in East Bend as Starmount will take the short trip to play Forbush. Starmount is in the lead for the conference at the moment and a win here will not only continue their lead but will give them an undefeated start when conference starts next week. In Hays North Wilkes has their home opener vs. a hard headed North Stokes squad who nearly topped West Wilkes last week. After an lopsided loss to South Stokes NW better be ready to play here. Up in Sparta Alleghany hosts South in what will be a battle of the undefeateds, one has to lose. Wilkes Central meanwhile heads to Boone to play Watauga.

In NW play East Surry returns home after a thriller of a win last week hoping to maintain their record as they play what has been a very surprising Surry Central squad. This week will show a lot if SC’s a team to prep for or if they are fortunate to have played some down Wilkes schools. Mount Airy meanwhile hosts an unknown Morehead school that has no record on Max Preps; they are literally walking in the dark there in Graniteville. South meanwhile takes a good haul to try to stay undefeated while North Stokes hopes to pull off a statement win.

Meanwhile in WPAC play, North Surry has the week off to prep for the rest of the season. Forbush hosts Starmount in what could be the closest game of the night. The ‘Bush upset Starmount last year in what proved to be their biggest win however Starmount wants revenge tonight; the fate of 2 conferences could be revealed here. Surry Central heads to Pilot for their first county game. Walkertown takes a long haul to Ronda to play East Wilkes in a very hard to figure matchup. Walkertown beat North Stokes in their opener but fumbled bad last week while East is 1-1. Carver heads to Kernersville to face East Forsyth who walloped them last year and Atkins takes the haul to Randolph co to play Trinity.

Be sure to enjoy your evening folks! I have to work sadly or else I’d be in either MA or Easy Bend watching a game.

SC lost to the only Wilkes team that they played in EW.

They lost to Wilkes Central.

Scores has varied though the guy who always gets them wrong on Max Preps had them losing 28-27 but WC's Twitter had 16-13 Wilkes Central.

According to live feed on MP done by South's usual scorer, Alleghany beat South Stokes 8-0 in a thriller. That scorer has been right all year so I'll go with that since South hasn't posted on Twitter about it yet.

Big win for Alleghany, South has been solid first 3 games. Alleghany may be a surprise team after all..

No clue on the East Wilkes/Walkertown final as of yet.

Someone claimed Walkertown was up 22-0 in the live feed but that other guy had 37-22 East final. I have no true idea idea but Walkertown hasn't put anything on Twitter yet. They did post the same night when they beat North Stokes on JV so who knows.

West Wilkes put the score wrong on their max preps site; no one clarified until later. I have no clue what in the hell they were thinking but it's not my fault as I just report what I see.

If every school had a Twitter and did their job it wouldn't be such a headache every week to report. Some schools just ain't there yet apparently lol.

^Again this.

I do the best I can do every week but when some of the rural schools don't report the scores properly after the games and some random moron goes on Max Preps and reports false scores every week without being banned it's impossible to do this like it should be done. It's beyond irritating. Those who do help here like Deana, Sportsnut, and the North Stokes poster are very much appreciated.

But i'm not stopping anything; if it wasn't for me there would be nothing for these JV kids and I'm not changing that. Sorry.

Which class is more talented? 10th or 9th? For you guys to shut down South like that last Thursday that is a good sign. South's put some points up.

If the more talented group is the sophomores i'd consider it but if it's the freshies i'd leave them down and move them up next year after they get experience and weight room time. Might would hurt short term but it wouldn't kill that group's #'s off either. I think you all could possibly compete for the conference on the JV level this year if you all keep it up. Elkin's WAY down this year so there is gonna be a new champ.

Way it looks it could be either you guys, Ashe, or Starmount. North Wilkes is surprisingly very bad. I wasn't expecting that as they won the middle school league last year. East has low #'s so it will be a struggle. Wilkes Central's been middle of the road at best. West isn't very solid since North Wilkes almost got 'em. Might be a good year for the Trojans.

The school board has publicly said that North Stokes is on the list of being shut down within the next 10 years. Sadly, you’ll see this more and more in the future with schools in the middle of no where. It’s hard for North Stokes to compete when the other 2 schools in their county are in a city setting, and 1 of those schools looks like a college campus with its facilities.

Yeah I just seen that on the Stokes news site.. yikes. Middle school too. i hate that because one of my best childhood friends teaches there. :( What do you think they will do with the kids? Merge with West and send some to South?

The middle school did decide to fold due to low numbers(think they should have waited till after first week of school) however I think most of the 7th graders were playing down for the little league program which impacted this.
It will always be a struggle with numbers and someday will be a tough decision that will have to be made if things don’t change—-

I guess that's why they are doing so good in Pee Wee ball this year. Well i'm sure having a few ex Walnut Cove kids playing for them helps too (South's pee wee decided to start playing AAU ball instead of the Surry/Stokes league.)

They are #1 with our two teams 2 and 3 in the standings.

If Frank can keep their talented kids in house and get enough kids to have a workable # he can win potentially here in a couple of years. That JV team they have now plays hard. But it's hard to do there. I'd hate to see them end like that.

Despite the score it wasn't too bad of a game for us considering.

We came into this with a 1st time starting QB as the original QB is on varsity now and our D leader is out hurt. It easily coulda been a major dud of a game and for the 2nd quarter it was but we turned things around and played really solid in the 2nd half. We just didn't come into this one 100% into it; these kids are quite young but they will get better at preparing mentally thru the year. The oddness of the week I'm sure didn't help due to it being a Wendsday game.

This is MA's best JV squad they have had since Greene's freshman year. Got a solid WR that will be playing varsity for them next year. QB isn't bad for JV level. They will give East a good game in November their offense is way more explosive than the Cards.

As for us I really like the new kid at QB; he can run it well. His throwing was a surprise though because he's had to learn the plays on the fly but he overperformed tonight. We scored 20 on MA it's the most they have given up so far. D needs some work but 2nd half wise they got better.

I'm feeling confident for conference now. It's gonna contain some challenges but if we play hard like we can and keep improving each week it could be a fun end to the year.

Slash,
You are correct that yall hung more on MA than anyone to date--the WR is very athletic however they have some other guys that are very good also--the ES game will be a good one for sure as they have some athletes that match up well.

Just a FYI--North Stokes vs Patrick County has been cancelled. Looking at the possibility of playing Monday night--

Sounds like the Cuppard ain’t quite as bare as once thought in the granite city, how’s the line play and other positions for this young bears jv squad, I haven’t had a chance to see them

Not the biggest line you all have had (the teams with Ian Holder and Greene were much bigger,) but they play hard. About the same size as East's line. Your skill players are way better than East's in terms of speed. They will have a hard time with #8 if they don't prep for him.

Week 6 JV Slate:

MA 15 at Surry Central 12
East Surry 20 at Ragsdale 14 OT
North Surry 26 at Atkins 0*
Elkin 14 at Starmount 45*
South Stokes at Bartlett Yancy ? NO REPORT
West Stokes 22 at Walkertown 0*
Carver 14 at Forbush 24*
Alleghany 32 at Ashe County 6*
West Wilkes 12 at Wilkes Central 46*
East Wilkes 22 at North Wilkes 30*

Well it’s finally conference time!

In MVAC play Alleghany heads to West Jefferson to play Ashe which could be an important game to decide the fate of the conference. The Trojans are 3-0 after a thriller of a non conference win over West Wilkes (play twice this year,) and have the best statistical defense in the conference. Ashe however is no pushover as they have played 3A Watauga twice and played Hibriten. The Hibriten and 2nd Watauga game were thrillers and Ashe could easily be 2-1. This will be a huge test for Alleghany and will be a game that could change things quite rapidly. Meanwhile in Boonville another important game will be Elkin vs Starmount. Elkin’s run of defending the gold will start in rival’s land. The season was a rough start for the Elks; however they won big last week and have some more confidence. Starmount meanwhile is very hard headed and has two big wins over East Surry and West Stokes; won’t be an easy matchup for either side. Also in MVAC play West Wilkes goes to Moravian Falls to play WC, and in Hays North Wilkes has quite possibly their best shot at winning a game as they host a undermaned but talented East Wilkes squad.

In NW play it’s one more week of non con matchups. Mount Airy goes to Dobson to play a hard headed Central squad who’s played everyone tough this year. However MA’s pass offense may be overwhelming for the Eagles. East meanwhile takes the good haul down to Guilford county to play Ragasdale; East beat them solidly last season.. South Stokes meanwhile takes a solid trip to Caswell county to try to right the course at Bartlett Yancy.

In WPAC play like the MVAC there are 2 important matchups off the bat. Undefeated Forbush hosts Carver in what will be the Falcon’s first real test against speed. Last year the Falcons upset the Jackets in Winston in what proved to be their JV triumph of 2017 and they badly want to do it again. Carver meanwhile just wants to have a winning season for once but it will be a physical test for them to start. West Stokes meanwhile has had 2 weeks off thanks to the Hurricane cancelling their JV game vs East last week and will have to go to Walkertown hoping to shake some of the rust off their shoulder pads. Walkertown meanwhile has been very inconsistent. They have 2 wins against two 1A schools with low #’s however against schools bigger or more their size they have struggled hard. This game will tell a ton on how the conference will go. Defending champs North Surry meanwhile takes a solid haul down to Atkins to play them on JV in Camel territory for the first time in 3 years. It feels like forever since then ‘Hounds played Atkins on JV in Winston.

Some good matchups on the slate tonight; I’m getting ready to load up and make the good haul. Hope everyone has a fun evening; it’s beautiful outside for once!

Reported by Alleghany's reporter so I believe it. Wow.. Trojans are for real. Figured Ashe woulda fought harder.

Looks like Alleghany vs Starmount next week could be for the MVAC title..

JV Greyhounds get their first shutout in a good while.

1st half was kinda meh at best we seemed like we had a case of bus lag. Offense moved the ball solidly but the end zone was hard to get into in the 2nd quarter; lot like the SC game from last year. 2nd half was much better; we coulda scored 6 more but a bunch of shenanigans prevented that.

New QB had an even better week throwing it; growing to like the kid he's a gamer. Made a lot of better decisions this week; hope he keeps on getting better. D wise I loved our pop last night; #2 for Atkins tried to outhit us but he got thudded all night. Only time Atkins got any field to play with was due to a foul from us playing hard; it'll happen I guess.

Gotta give Atkins credit those kids they got play hard. Might not be nowhere as talented as the 2017 squad but judging from my eyes comparing last year's team to this one I have to admit this year's team for Atkins is WAY more physical. They got a hard running QB and #2 at RB is a runner but don't have much besides them.

Looking forward to next week. Walkertown comes up; don't know much about them but I expect them to run it a lot. We gotta keep getting better on O and keep the pace up on D but I like how we are getting there.

Tonight’s JV Games:

Atkins at Surry Central*
Ashe County at Elkin*
Starmount 34 at Alleghany 6*
West Stokes 14 at Carver 8 OT
Wilkes Central 30 at North Wilkes 0*
West Wilkes at East Wilkes (PPD until Monday)

Delayed:

Walkertown at North Surry* (TBD on Date)

Off:

East Surry, Forbush, Mount Airy, North Stokes, and South Stokes

Very odd and interesting slate of games tonight with the weather trying to interfere.

In the MVAC Alleghany hosts Starmount in what could be one of the determining games of that conference’s JV season. Alleghany’s undefeated with a stellar defense so far but Starmount has played a tougher schedule vs two of the area’s top programs in the W column. The winner of this one could very well be in the driver's seat for the gold. Wilkes Central meanwhile goes to Hays to face North Wilkes fresh off a win. Elkin hosts Ashe in what could be an eliminator game for the loser and East hosts West in the same boat. East is trying to make it thru the rest of the year.

Northwest wise the entire conference is off.

WPAC wise it’s business as usual. North Surry and Walkertown decided to wait based on the weather; more than likely they won’t play until November. Surry Central hosts Atkins in what could be their first win of the year. Central’s played everyone tough but just haven’t had enough offensive consistency to pull out the wins. West goes to Carver hoping for revenge as Carver shut them out last year in King in what was a surprise for many. Carver badly needs a boost while West needs momentum. Forbush is off this week.

Hope everyone has a good evening and stays dry!

Ahh gotcha, thanks for that. Kinda figured something was up; that guy who reports the MVAC scores is wrong every week. Still don't know how he is allowed to report them.

Thank you though :); I agree JV ball is the purest because it's young kids trying to learn before it gets big time. There's no money or spotlight and when they play hard they do it because they love it.

Why was NS Walkertown game delayed?

I have no idea, that was the school's choice. lol.

If I had to guess it's because we have a ton of stuff happening on the field the next few days and they didn't want to tear it up in case if it poured. Pee wee's got a homecoming on Saturday, North has a Soccer game Monday and a middle school game Wendsday. I got an inch at my house before 12, I live 5-10 minutes from North. I guess that worried them. It's rained steady here all night but it's pouring now.

At least it's drying up the next few days.Ready for the fall time weather :)
