MVC Thoughts in Future?

What makes you think Tulsa or Memphis would ever consider that conference? You are either a bot, or a supporter of the MVC.

I'm an ISU fan-MVC. Let's face it your strength is in hoops not in football. Massey has you at pre-season 117.

I think with the pending departure of the Group of 5 then Tulsa's going to need to look at a conference that allows it to be perennially at top of a conference for hoops purposes and also to reduce overall travel costs to the school and to benefit it's fans. Unfortunately, I believe South Florida will be get inviited to Big12 to join UCF before the move and Tulsa/Memphis will be left out. Figured a MVC move with Memphis-Tulsa gives a strong hoops conference and increases Tulsa's chances to do better in football. Plus all schools would be within 9 hour drive for fans who can't fly. The remaming conferences Mountain West, American, MAC, Sun Belt, Conference USA, MVC (assuming it makes jump up) and rest of FCS who will either become FBS or drop down to D2 will be solid football. But it's hoops you have to think about. That's where the dollars for Tulsa are at.

Our current conference deal pays 80% for football and 20% for everything else. Basketball is not where the dollars are at.

Tulsa left the MVC because it dropped football from FBS to FCS (although they weren’t called that at the time) and TU wanted to continue playing at the highest level. They are’t “making the jump” as you put it as a conference because each school has to evaluate the financial impact of investing in FBS football.

Look I like Tulsa - I miss playing you guys in both sports. I think the current system and way its going is stacked against schools like Tulsa, Memphis, Illinois State, etc. Unfortunately when Group of 5 go/split off then the money games from football you get from playing Okie State, etc are going to dry up and the travel costs are going to have to be taken into account espacially when you look at your non-rev teams. I think the American is a great conference but if USF leaves then you really gotta look at a conference where Tulsa is viewed as top of the crop not just some middle which I think most would consider Tulsa in American. Heck I'd love to have Illinois State play Memphis, Tulsa, etc rather than in FCS. We had our largest donations in history of school after going on NIT and FCS football runs and we have a lot coming back in both. I'd much rather see MVC jump up for FBS football and grab teams than have to leave and go to the MAC. Thoughts?

The thing is, the level we play at now, and even in CUSA brings in more money. So do our donors bring in more money, now that we are at that level. The money is even more necessary these days considering nil. We have been sub par for a while in football & basketball, due to bad coaching hires to start out with, and more recently and secondarily, because of nil.

The first year we managed to find a significant amount of nil, it came too late for the football team to take advantage of it. That was last year, and you saw what that nil increase did for the basketball team. This year I think you will begin to see what it does for football. (It may take two years of decent nil for the football team to catch up though.)

I know the MVC is aware that changes are necessary otherwise its going to lose ISU to the MAC and even Bradley to a non-football conference. If MVC expanded to 18 team conference for hoops and 10 for football then. Frankly I'd even be open for ISU to jump to the American as long as Tulsa-Memphis stayed put. MAC would be better geographically, but us getting to play Wichita State, Tulsa, Memphis again would be great. However I've heard MVC giving thought to jump up to an FBS league for football and leverage their play in hoops TV markets - Chicagoland, St Louis, Nashville, etc.
