He can have his third year. Doesn’t mean people have to be happy about it and it sure doesn’t mean we just have to shut up and cheer go pope. Until he starts winning or is fired I’ll post how terrible he is as much as I want to.
An NCAA record 8 wins against top 15 teams in his first year with a roster he assembled in 2 months. Let’s let them man assemble a roster that stays healthy for a full year. The man can coach. The sky isn’t falling

Criticisms are fine, free speech and all. But maybe wait until the portal is underway before chirping? Better yet, wait until the season is underway before going all gloom and doom on him?
From my perspective I am criticizing what he's done up to this point. I will be happy to criticize him or praise him on what happens going forward when we get to that.

The narrative was established with 14 losses, a 9 seed in the sec tournament, and a 2nd round ncaa tournament exit. You change it with hope through recruiting, which hasn't happened yet.
You guys just keep going at it.

We get it. Abysmal season. He's getting a third year. Time to move on.

Talk about what you think Pope can do to fix it but just try to refrain from saying resign.

I don’t see why it bothers you or anyone else if people post their displeasure, what is the point of making threads complaining about people complaining
I didn't make this thread,

You can hold your breath until you pass out in protest of Mark Pope if you want to...

I see SO many threads saying exactly the same thing and I think to myself "does this person actually think that repeating the same thing that's been said a million times change anything?"

I'll take my own advice and stop trying to be a voice of reason going forward.

Record number of double digit losses and his track record says otherwise but I’m sure you’ll just ignore that
I'm not ignoring anything. But you're in hypothetical land right now. No one knows what will happen. Remember when Cal went to the NIT? No one thought that would happen but it did.

Ok. Good points. I will start.

*Most importantly to me is to just close on recruits. I think they have did a really good job at targeting them but you must finish on some. Last year for instance we had Wilson and Wilkerson at the dotted line basically and didn't close. I'm not sure about Yaxel but I think he was close too. Two of those 3 or all 3 and we would not be discussing this today.

*Win the pressers. He had a horrible year communicating and with body language.

*Don't try to defend the job you did by saying we barely made progress. Own it and say its 100% unacceptable and it will get back to the standard no matter what.

What does cal have to do with anything, but are you talking about the bit after winning a national championship? We don’t know what will happen but based off data and analytics which pope loves to use we can kind of see where things are gonna go

Show me where I've said Pope doesn't deserve a 3rd season.

The first thing Pope can do to fix this is to start landing some studs. Wait, I already said that.

I’m with you. It doesn’t look like Pope is the guy moving forward, BUT he’s going to be the coach next year and I am going to support my team and hope for the best.

If next season is as bad as many are expecting it to be, we move on a year from now. A new administration will be hiring a new coach.

If Pope somehow reverses his career trajectory of winning 6.3 of every 10 games and takes the Cats on a run, many of us will owe the guy an apology or at least a “my bad”

I was raised that if you’re complaining about something and not offering a viable solution or have no control over what you’re complaining about, you’re just bitching and no one wants to hear it. That’s pretty much my dad’s exact words.
Agree - I'm definitely concerned, but I'm done groaning out loud about it.

Coach Pope is here again next year. We have opinioned this board to death about what we think of Pope and his inefficiencies. I agree, it looks grim right now and he may not be the guy, but he's back next year. So let him have his year.

In his defense, I don't think he thought JQ and Lowe wouldn't be playing at the end of the year. In addition to that, maybe there was dissension in this year's team, and he didn't want to throw kids under the bus, so he made lame excuses.

And before you hamburger this thread, remember Cal went to NIT with 5 stars. Sometimes it doesn't pan out.

Let's see if he can make the changes.
Pope has the same track record going back many years. It’s not some 1 year annomoly. Year 1 was an average year. At UK coaches don’t get to sit there whine and point to what amounts as no progress let them spin it as some sort of success. Pope never understood the assignment and no he doesn’t just get a year with no pressure. That’s not how it works as a matter of fact I wouldn’t mind seeing pope canned mid season next year because nothing will change only get worse.

I bet in 2 weeks pope emerges from his hole and we will find he has a tan. The guy has been waiting for the season to end since the suicide comments and the fatigue comments. He mentally doesn’t have it and at UK you gotta get it done in a pressure cooker not “let him have HIS year”. Uk bb done belong to him no year is his. He is the steward not the owner. So no to the op. Tubby and cal didn’t get some free year. When is pope gonnna compare his first two years to tubby last 4. but he should be comparing it to the Billy Clyde Gillespie years. That’s where pope is I’d say Billy Gillespie with coach circles around him .

Well I do have a solution, fire pope. You’re such a great fan for never saying anything against the coach, you’re really helping him win.
Agree. Fans who sit back and say nothing when there is an obvious problem are no fans at all, IMO. Those types of fans contribute more to the decline of a program than its benefit. Virtue signaling is always a bad look and result. Blue-blood programs are high maintenance and require excellence at every turn, especially the ADs office. Excusing underperformance will kill the excellence and fans that excuse it are not the type of fans that constantly push for excellence. They're just on the wagon expecting a free ride to glory days trying to tell everyone else what a real fan looks like. Foolishness and they contribute nothing to the opportunity to once again bask in the glory of our rich tradition.

Lol. It's mainly the message board folks. They lost this stuff because they hide behind a user name.

We had lowe who went down, and they figured Jasper could back him up being a combo guard. We lost the kid from villanova, he was supposed to be backup because of his daddy.

Jq situation was a mess, high risk, high reward. We got the crap end of it. That was biggest mistake and roster substitutions to get players experience. People saying whiff this, when we have 11 players who could come back are ignorant. I don't think any major team has 11 players back.

Ones calling him dork, dope, etc I guarantee are big fat losers in real life. He obviously can recruit while most of you got rosie o donald lookalikes as wives.
I have serious concerns about the direction of the program. No one should have any illusions that there will be no criticisms of the Coach or AD on here.

That said, I 100% agree with you that we absolutely should be respectful and avoid name calling / personal insults.

I would love to see us be better than that. I can't control what others do, but I personally am not going to post that kind of garbage.

Is anyone here not letting him have his third year? What are we even talking about?
Yeah, exactly what I was thinking. Clearly we have no say in the what is looking like a death spiral for our program. Keep driving it into the ground. Because clearly a third year is important for the Barnhart to try and save face. We can't stop it......but we know how this ends. With a total implosion or another year of whimpering mediocrity at best.

He can have his year three because he’s getting it anyways.

while we delay the inevitable because it will be another **** show of portal players that’s never played together. Absolutely no reason to keep kicking the can down the road

I still have hope that Pope won’t be the coach here next season.

And I’m not letting go of that hope until the season starts.

It doesn’t bother me that some are just accepting it.

Why would it bother someone that I don’t?

Unless Pope walks away he’s gonna be here next year. I hope he wins the national championship and I hope he has Kentucky in the hunt for one every year. He would be the perfect coach for Kentucky because he understands it here and he genuinely loves Kentucky. To him it’s his dream job. I was pleasantly surprised by last year but extremely disappointed by this year. If next year is not vastly better then he’s just not the right coach for Kentucky. We might as well hope he rights the ship because he’s here next year no matter what. I would never hope for a Kentucky coach to fail.
I hope that Pope can turn it around but I’d hardly call him “perfect”. His personality is frankly a major hangup for me. And I think it’s true for a lot of fans. Pitino and Calipari were the “perfect” coaches for Kentucky. Pope is just… odd.

It really doesn’t affect my daily mental health. I’m sorry I’m not gonna live in a fairytale land and pretend there’s anything to be positive about a year 3 pope.
Not telling you to live in fairytale land both can exist. I just got to a certain point where losses and this stuff can really bring you down in life. Didnt want to see someone else like that!

I got you, I hate the shape the program is in right now and I want to see Kentucky basketball back to where it should be but I don’t really let it seep into my daily life. I just get it all out on here lol

Question for you guys. Why are so many of you legit angry at Mark Pope? What did he do to make you guys hate him?

Don't deny it, y'all are slinging a ton of mud at him and even calling him "Dope". That's hate.

Mark is only doing what he knows how to do. Yeah, he accepted the job, you would have too, don't lie.

Every coach out there thinks they're awesome and if given the chance, can win big. Well, some are right, but a lot of them have a great plan, until they step into the ring and get punched in the mouth.

This job looks a lot easier from outside the ropes than it actually is. I think we can all agree on that.

So, why be angry at Pope, this isn’t his fault, it's Mitch's fault.

Additionally: He did have a very good year last year and overcame a lot. But this year. He walked into a storm, partially created by himself. He failed at building this team, but in addition to that, he lost his pg, he lost Kam and JQ quit. But I think the biggest issue is, he lost this team. There was an inner team issue and they never recovered from it. They put on an act all year, but the truth is, the players really didn't like each other. This is obvious to me. To me, I'm amazed Pope won 20+ games given these circumstances. Doesn't mean he's any good at this, bit he did overcome a lot.

Don't hate Pope, he’s just doing what he knows how to do, Mitch is the one that botched this.

We must protect pope and his beautiful and positive feelings at all costs. Next season depends on it
