My radical thoughts

Nobody is about to hire nor listen to my advice. Va and other detractors - open chance to jump on but here is what I would do:

First, I’m impressed. Law has stopped getting the stupid early foul and whining to the refs. Pardon still needs to work his D.

This season is lost absent an unusual run or B1G tourney run. And what is out there now isn’t working, nor gaining valuable experience. Here’s how I target the NIT.

Starting lineup change, Gaines in Taylor out. Let the other teams second unit chase him. He can’t outrun the starters and just gets tired and misses shots. Make him the sixth man.

Nobody plays more than 30 in regulation. Period. Let the rookies learn.

Second half starters: Greer, Law, Kopp, Nance and Benson. First sub Pardon. Keep Pardon fresher. Give Benson minutes. Set yourself up to end the game w Law, Gaines, Xxx, xxx and Pardon (x representing hot and with legs).

We have run our guys out of the game. Tired, foul proned, clock wasting, long three jacking.

Worse case: we continue to lose and give the young guys real experience, experience versus good competition.

Beat case: Taylor can beat second teamers, Nance or Kopp or Greer develop, Gaines truly emerges Lindsey style.

Not conventional. But we have lost to good, middle and bad. What we ARE doing isn’t working. So try something w an eye to the future and roll the dice.

You think that you would have learned from football not to give up. 16 games (at least) left to go...

I mentioned in the game thread yesterday that I thought Taylor might be better served as a sixth man. I agree with you there. Gaines has earned a starting spot. He needs to be on the floor as much as possible.

I’m not quite sold on your second half lineup.

I also like the idea of Taylor as the sixth man. Gaines has earned himself a shot at the starting lineup. We are better with him on the floor.

Not unreasonable things to try. We are so close yet so far away with this team.

The second half line up wouldn’t be able to score. You are missing your 2-5 scorers. I would double Vic where he wouldn’t touch the ball. You would also have a big problem on D, again Law being the only above average defender.

If Greer, Nance and Kopp don’t learn to score, forget next season and this season. Start the second half w the next generation for 4 minutes and start subbing. And do plenty of subbing. Nobody over 30 minutes.

If they lose, they lose but valuable experience is gained.

I like getting those guys more minutes but just not all at the same time.

I think your idea of starting Gaines and making Taylor the 6th man is a good one.

Fatigue seems to be the main reason for the tough losses. Something needs to be done to preserve starting-team energy for the end game and possible OT.

I agree that Greer, Nance and Kopp need more pt, so I like the second half starters. The Greer-at-PG option hasn't been given nearly enough time.

X....Like your thoughts on being tired and fatigued.....sure seems that way.....NU basketball kind of reminds me of one of those video games where everyone has a power bar.....and by the final battle the mythical figure with the most power wins unless you have saved a magic spell.......we had the magic spell card against uofi ....we either need more energy or more magic cards.....Our system offensively and defensively just seem to demand so much effort with not much return.
