People need to stop sugarcoating this season by talking about bad basketball coaches from 30+ years ago. This team is awful and the blame falls on the coach. I'm not advocating for his termination but this kind of season is inexcusable. No I don't expect to make the NCAA tournament every year but winning one or a few SEC games shouldn't be that much to ask.

0-11 , first year
So no, not from the time they were hired
Holtz came in after the biggest dumpster fire this program had ever had, which is saying alot. That ‘99 season never had a chance regardless of the coach. The year before a close win against Ball State kept those 2 seasons from being 0-22. There was no Ball State the following year, the ‘99 team was probably better than the ‘98 team.

We are all disappointed but it doesn't change the fact that Paris is a good coach.

Being a non-traditional basketball power, with the transfer rules / NIL, there are goint to be more highs and lows (in short periods) than we are comfortable. Things will level out over the next several years.

All mitigating circumstances aside, the question was has any coach ever come in and had success from the time they were hired.
The answer remains no.

Will SC ever have a coach who is good from the time they are hired? I swear, every coach in every major sport "needs more time".

There’s the original question. I said Spurrier, maybe Holtz. The “mitigating circumstances” were the reality. The case for Holtz is the 0-11 team was arguably better than the 1-10 team. He then reeled off the best 2 seasons in Gamecock football to that point. If we’re going by year one record alone then no Holtz wasn’t good from the beginning.

Our record wasn't good at the beginning. But Holtz was an established national championship coach. I'm sure his coaching was good at the beginning.
