This season my view is from the top of the bleachers. I don't have a pen or a tape recorder or even a pad to keep stats, just a program.

After 21 years of walking sidelines, hustling to meet deadlines and seeing as many teams as I can, this year I'm only really watching one.

Being a football dad is a far more significant job than I have had the last two decades and I'm perfectly fine with it.

For me now it's all about perspective. My son isn't a D1 kid. He won't have recruiters calling and emailing. His future in college won't be determined by his game tapes or his summer exposure camps.

Instead he is like hundreds of kids all over the state, he plays because he loves this game. No other reason other than that.

Regardless of the talent, every kid tonight and for the rest of this season does so because he loves to play this game.

So as we sit in the stands for the next 14 weeks I as a parent first and a fan will be watching No. 45 on the warren sophomore team so what he enjoys.

Tonight I'll have a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye every play because I get to watch a game that I love played by a kid I love and I'm just fine with that.

Happy New Year everyone one and enjoy the view!

We start our journey tomorrow on freshman level. after being on the sidelines and in his ear for 7 years, it is time to sit next to his mom and enjoy his new adventure as a fan. Good Luck to all the players coaches and parents, have a safe and fun season! Cheers!

Good stuff Newt! It would be great if in two years we get that MS vs. Warren game back on the schedule.

Newt,

Enjoy the ride. I did when my son played and it was one of the best times of my life.

I'll keep the sidelines warm for you cause I know you will be back in a few years.

In the meantime, have a pork chop sandwich at Barrington. No better way to start the journey.
