The kids still have to play and perform when it counts. Butler had a every chance to finish Grimsley off but didn’t do it. Once it was mentioned that Butler played a Greensboro All Star team I didn’t feel as bad.

In the early 2000s Independence/Olympic had more wide open offenses so a QB would go there if they wanted to be noticed. Butler had years where the running backs and defensive backs would go to great college programs so a family would move into the school zone to enroll. It’s nothing new.
Even with them being an All-Star team. Butler was mauling them in the 1st half. Grimsley never gave up, and got momentum swinging in their direction. Once Metzger went down, along with the 48yd pass, with seconds left in the game. It was wrap. Although i did believe it was going into overtime. It happens!

Times have changed...MONEY is the name of the game now. 7v7s, local and national camps along with schools camps respectively. It's crazy how a offer from UNC or Clemson can make any fringe player into an national name. And now that kids can make money from their likeness...the Bryce Young kid at Alabama is worth millions without taking a meaningful game snap. I'm from the old school like mostly everyone else on here but HS football is big money these days. And with Charlotte the hub in the state for big time football...they're going to come here and play besides Watauga or Robbinsville....not dissing those places but better opportunity when u have a 704/980 area code.
Charlotte is no panacea. Media exposure may be advantageous but college recruiters are aware of where the talent is regardless of the school. Targeting a specific school can be a risky venture as few Mecklenburg county schools have demonstrated coaching stability. Mecklenburg County is a volatile carrousel when it comes to head coach retention. Even the best ultimately flee (Knotts, Palmieri, Brand...). Independence had a great run. So did Mallard Creek. But the power base moves around. Residence rules allow for a lot of the volatility but parents will move to where it is advantageous for their kid. Don't underestimate the fact that some kids will leave programs as much as being attracted to them.

This is the world now. It's just a trickle down effect to the HS level. Pro athletes pick their teams, transfer portal at College level. It used to be a handful of the top tier kids moving. Now it's average kids transferring multiple times over 4 years. The fact that some troll thinks this is a Meck County issue just validates what an idiot he is.

As I have said before, if your a HC and you haven't embraced this your never winning more than 5 - 6 games in the big boy conferences. Talent alone doesnt buy you a ring but the lack of talent ensures you won't be getting it.

We talk about Myers Park and Hough alot but take a hard look at the Chambers roster this year. Loaded with tons of transfers. Win and they will come.
