Thoughts? Running team vs Spread. North looks similar to West in terms of style of play. Shelby has to do a better job with stopping the run. They have had trouble with misdirection running teams. As far as offense goes, should Shelby give Scott a look at RB like they did Garrion back in 14? Looked good on the fake punt run.

Shelby must come back from that horrible 4th quarter fiasco.Should be a great quarterfinal game.As for Scott running the ball I just can't see that.
Hitman boys took a few mins to get going after that 1st drive think they ate to much pregame..lol

North very well coached but shelby's experience w that offense w be an advantage and though i think north is good on def..shelby to much speed in this one..closer than some think but lions return to lenoir next week
We will have athletes on both sides of the ball. North can play with anyone. We will put up some points too. If we pressure qb and contain.. I think you will see a good game.

We expect people to say speed kills and too much speed etc but keep in mind, North has more speed than West Lincoln and is well coached. Been plenty of East Burke wins against Freedom in the 80s were they were against track stars. Thought I’d throw in a Freedom thought for all you Shelby rowdies lol.

Seen both play, Shelbys run defense is suspect so North may have some success running the ball especially with misdirection plays. On defense North has a young defensive end that can get some pressure on the qb but they do have a lot of key players that go both ways. Shelby platoon system is something that gives them an advantage against 2A teams. One factor that will be key are special teams. NL has a kicker that can get it to the end zone so they will limit Shelby's opportunity to return kicks. In the end, this is playoff football and playoff Shelby, especially this time of year will have a different swagger about them at home. I see this being a close one until the 4th and Shelby pulls away. 38-20 Shelby.

Cant go by that TJ game. We got beat by Burns just as bad a loss...im sure North will be a discipline team. And one we cant take lightly. But i belive these boys at Shelby are picking up steam.

Yes we did;(... new coach new offense new defense all on about 10 weeks. But they were a very good team too! I believe #1 seed and 12-0 right now. I would like that one as a redo..
Just curious but why do you guys never run the qb on a read option? He looked like he could move pretty good and it would keep defenses honest.

I would start to say this is the 2A version of Mallard Creek. Sometimes they don’t always win or win it all but they run deep and get maybe 2 losses on whole year and reload and reload. Next year will be even better for your program surely if the JVs undefeated.
Maidens JVs also all wins last year with varsity doing well and Charlotte Observer threw them in the preason sweet 16. But I’m firm believer that Shelby knows how to play past the preseason hype and paper. Always a soild program.
Yes I saw Mallard Creek lost and this thread not even about them. But as far as they go, they lost to a team that was equally talented, fast, and strong as they are. Play calling, turnovers, etc all play a major role in teams rock soild equal playing each other and determining the win. I feel that was the case last year with Hibriten. Won’t be like this with North so every play call will have to be smart. Calling a playoff game like this will raise a mans blood pressure lol.
Hough always has some hogs on both sides of the trenches. Big boys. If they hadn’t had any alum in the draft yet they may soon. Mallard had a Olinman go early couple years ago. That’s just one I know of.

Y’all thought you had no chance at Shelby. Crest prob thought they didn’t have a chance but they sure got showed up against Huss this past friday which I guess both of those games Shelby had injuries and adjustments to make.
Underdogs can win. It’s not like Shelbys playing West Caldwell. Winnable game for North if and only if calls are fairly done with them along with Shelby making a few mistakes or just a couple.
Things to give North hope:
Better than West Lincoln who held them to 3 TDs. Plays well with athletic teams hence the EL win and close game with Bandys. Well coached and improving every game. Not saying much but I know they got better players than Ashe as a whole.
I might eat my words but as of now it’s gonna be a game as long as nobody on field for North gets discouraged and plays every down like it’s a close game. Too many times when down by 3 scores I see kids give up.
