Just re-watched the last 10 min of the UK-WSU game. Our defense really stepped up on WSU's last two possessions. Monk's block and free throws won the game.

Yeah, about that...this U.K. team has the potential to be a monster defensive team. Cal saw it very early in the pre-season. We have all seen it in spurts throughout the season. Problem is that the key cogs in that potential monster defense tend to conserve energy for the majority of the game. And I don't have to tell you which end of the court they practice those conservation methods...now do I?
Fox could be the best defender in the country...if he chose to do so. He is quick...has length...and anticipates well. But he picks his spots. Just wish he would nut up and do it more often. Monk could be much better on defense with his athletic ability...and he is at times. But mostly he spends the majority of his time and effort on defensive possessions dreaming up ways to get his shot off.
But they gettin' the job done. And shall continue to do so. This team shines brightest when the spot light is brighter. And remember that momentum factor I spoke of about 12 wins ago? Yeah well, the Cats are knee deep in that ish right about now!!!

Derek Willis' footwork on defense has been the best improvement since Christmas. I think his ankles are finally healthy from last year's injury. Dude looks like he's playing instead of overthinking.
Wenyen is awful. He should slow down and know his role... Which is rebounding, hustling and weakside D- as opposed to hoisting uncontested bombs.
Sasha/Hump/Tai should go in as one lineup like the Hansen brothers and club the piss out of UCLA. Soften then up a bit and get tossed.

If they are gonna beat UCLA, as much as I would love to shut him down and tell his father to STFU, let Ball get his. If he goes off for 30, fine. Don't let him get the others involved, especially kick outs for bombs from Alford or Leaf. I'd have Hawkins and Briscoe on him all game, and tell Briscoe to talk more trash to him than he did Grayson Allen last year.
This isn't the same defensive team UCLA saw in Rupp. UK has gotten better on that end, UCLA hasn't. Keep Alford and Leaf in check and I think that is the recipe for a 3-7 point win.
That said, I'm still not pumping sunshine until we are out of the region. UCLA by six.

With 2 midrange/stretch 4's, the best facilitator since Kidd and Bryce Alford bombing 3's. They are a tough guard. They WILL score in the 80's, regardless of quality defense we throw at them.
That said, Willis needs at least 3 threes, Mulder needs 2, Dom needs to drive the paint with the rest of the guards to endure high % FG made, collect fouls, and hopefully clog paint for rebounds.
We haven't passed the look test, but that can change I reckon. I didn't see it against NKU - which is troublesome.
