Todd May transferred to Wake Forest at the semester break of his freshman season. It was sort of a big deal regionally at the time. May was at WF for a season or so, maybe got injured, and then transferred to Pikeville from WF. Put up huge numbers at Pikeville.Yes, May was a freshman (with Sky) my freshman year 1982-1983. He was from eastern KY somewhere and transferred to Pikeville after his freshman year. Winston Bennett was coming to UK the next year as well.

I was among those who didn’t see it coming when May pulled up and left UK. My memory is he had a nice game in Rupp that was nationally televised, that Al McGuire spoke highly of his potential, and maybe even tried to give May a nickname during the broadcast? There was something nagging me that wasn't quite right. I bet Wojo still has nightmares that Wayne Turner stars in.Wayne Turner. PG on 2 Nat Champion teams. I don't understand why he isn't celebrated more.
Hah! Yes.I bet Wojo still has nightmares that Wayne Turner stars in.

Big Woo was poorly used. He was never going to be a back to rim center. He wasn’t allowed to play out on the perimeter where he was much more comfortable.
At Wake Forest, May faced challenges that limited his playing time. He did not participate in games during the 1983–84 season due to NCAA transfer rules and left the team in the 1984–85 season . Reports suggest that he suffered a foot injury while at Wake Forest and felt pressured by the coaching staff to return to play before fully recovering, which contributed to his decision to leave .There was something nagging me that wasn't quite right. Thanks for the correction.

That was the first name that popped into my head too. I always had a soft spot for him because he had some family issues that he was dealing with while at UK. Per ChatGPT, Fitch is currently head men's basketball coach and assistant AD at Central Georgia Tech in Macon. He played professionally for 15 seasons, briefly in the NBA, then in Turkey, Spain, China and Argentina. Good for him.Gerald Fitch
